How About This for "Settling" Tie Games?
Five minute OT. Two points for a win. Zero points for a loss. AND ZERO POINTS FOR EITHER TEAM IF THE GAME ENDS IN A TIE. That would get rid of the "protecting the tie" strategy. And it would be really fun to watch games between your rivals, rooting for the tie. The closing minutes of a tie game would be a f-ing frenzy!

I love the idea of zero points for a loss.
Here’s my idea:
Each team gets a 2 min. 5 on 3 (or 4 on 2?) powerplay in “overtime”
If no team scores, no points.
If both teams score, it’s a tie, 1 point each
If one team scores, 2 points for them, zero for the loser.
Plus, it actually makes the games shorter, and you can still root for rivals in other games to not score!
Crazy, huh?

How about this idea. At the end of regulation, award 2 for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss, and everyone goes out for brewskis. Call me a radical.

I don’t know. I like the idea of no points for a tie. Or else, as you say, Mike, no OT and just call it a day. It’s just crazy enough to work.
