I had to check the date on this story to make sure it wasn't from last year

The Hockey News: Campbell's Cuts: Campbell's Cuts: Lightning lose top executive, Kings interested in Lecavalier

The Kings are a natural destination for Lecavalier, partly because it’s believed he would not block a trade to Los Angeles and in part because the Kings have both the salary cap room and the assets to get a deal done.

It's from today, but I'm quite sure that exact sentence was written before last year's deadline. In any case, with regard to Vinny coming to L.A.:

PLEASE STFU

Quisp, forgive my lack of acronym recognition (not much of a text-er), but does the “S” in STFU stand for “shut”? If so, I think I get it.

shut, yes

i don’t text either, but that’s one of the handy ones

Wait till this year.

So am I correct in thinking you are anti-Vinny as a King? If so, is that a hard “no”, or a “not unless the price is right—no”?

by JZarris on Jan 29, 2010 8:41 PM PST reply actions

it's more of an "I'm so tired of this story" no.

Also, the contract is so deadly. I really don’t know what they could possibly give us to make that right. Stamkos and Hedman. Oh, Ohhhhh-kay…

So, I guess, sure, I would go with “not unless the price is right.”

Okay, now you’ve got me thinking about it. Here you go:

Vinny and…this year’s first and next year’s second…for Stoll.

Wait till this year.

Lol! Yeah, I’d rather avoid that monster deal…but what is Vinny’s actual cap hit per year? 7.7 million?

by JZarris on Jan 29, 2010 9:12 PM PST reply actions

$6.875MM

He will be a UFA on 7/1/2020.

Wait till this year.

pass the pipe, please!

Somebody — be it Campbell, his sources, the current or future TB management, or Vinny’s agent — is smoking some goooood shiiit.

i'll show you my butt tattoo if you'll show me yours

Pass the dutchie to the left hand side!

Excuse the pun, but where there is smoke there is fire, right? Think about it:
1) Vinny is a DL-type player (big, strong, center, winner, etc.)
2) DL has acknowledged being at the point of making a ‘splash’ kind of deal
3) Tampa is clearly looking to shed salary…be it with the owners that couldn’t make payroll
for February or with the pirate hedge-fund manager
4) The Kings are one of the few teams in the league with a) the cap space and
     b) the combination of players/prospects/picks

I’m not in favor of the (highly hypothetical) deal, but you must admit a 1-2 center rotation of Kopitar/Lacavalier is mighty tempting, especially considering that Vinny is only 29.

meanwhile, back on planet Earth...

…when it eventually comes time for Doughty, Simmonds, Moller, Bernier, et al to sign those 2nd and 3rd contracts, how will you then feel about your boyish-faced Montreal boy, mr. general manager?

On the other hand, if he gets to wear no. 4, I just might be OK with that.

Dude, “this is gonna make us jump and shout”!

Yeah, I'm sold:

VL, Tampa’s 2010 1st and 2011 2nd for Stoll.

Wait till this year.

Stoll, a bag of chips and a sixer (conditional domestic/foreign)

by JZarris on Jan 29, 2010 10:10 PM PST reply actions

Simmer down there, falmer! I clearly stated I’m not in favor of any deal for Vinny, and exactly for the reasons you so eloquently laid out…let’s avoid any friendly fire here!

understood

sorry if that came off as if it were directed at you, JZ. it was a bad attempt on my part to address whichever real or hypothetical armchair g.m./crackpot came up with the idea in the first place. my musings and ramblings rarely succeed in hitting the mark. i talk to phantoms and listen to the wind. i get where you’re coming from and am on your side.

Don’t we already have Vinny Lecavalier? His name is Anze Kopitar.

The West Coast is the Best Coast.

It’s all love, falmer! They need to come up with a ‘sarcasm’ button one day…I could really use it.
