I just had a thought
Someone on a message board somewhere offered up the possibility that Ilya Kovalchuk can always take his ball and go home to the KHL. And I wondered to myself, how would that work exactly? Oh, right.
Wouldn't it be funny if Kovalchuk retired now?

HA! HA! HAAAA!
If he HAD THE BALLS to do that, there is NO WAY any NHL team would pick him up after this season. He wouldn’t be exonerated for doing that.
"Soo many games, soo little time"
my guess, he doesnt even want to try to play defense and john maclean said,“i dont give a shit how much money you make, play defense!”
IK said,“i dont wann!” then pouted-so coach put him on a time out to think about what he did!
i give this till christmas before we see a big story, cant see him bolting for Russia, not after that I wanna be a Devil for life speech! lol

I stick by my prediction that McLean has until the end of the roadtrip to claw his way back to .500, or else he's going to be replaced
and i just keep laughing to myself because i don’t think ken hitchcock and kovi would get along either.

I guess if they go 3-2 on the rest of the trip, they’ll be at 5-8-1 and maaaaaybe he keeps his job. But really, they need to win four of the next five. Right now, I would be surprised if they can win 2.
Wait till this year.
I had a thought too. What about waivers?
Hi Quisp. It’s my first time posting here but I’ve enjoyed reading your insights going back to Hammonds’ Daily News blog, and I figured you’d have the most interesting input on the possibility of my crazy thought becoming a reality. What if NJ put IK on waivers? No team would dare claim him with that contract (would they?). And then they put him on re-entry waivers. I still don’t think anyone would take him, even at 1/2 salary. I know it’s crazy and definitely not an imminent or even probable situation, but I just wondered what you think. I’m not very knowledgeable on the CBA but isn’t this the same thing that just happened with EE? I just think if the situation continues to follow the course it’s on that IK will want to go to the KHL and no NHL team will want him. If that happened would my scenario be possible/feasible?
It can be my fault......as long as it's not my problem.
he has a no-movement clause, so he can't be waived.
they’re stuck with him, unless they can find a way to claim a breach.
i think the inevitable path this will take is something like:
1) Kovalchuk will sooner or later win the battle with MacLean. Sooner if the Devils continue to lose. Later if they turn it around. But MacLean will not be the coach next year, and at this point I don’t think he’ll make it to Xmas.
2) It’s possible (remotely) that Lamoriello could side with MacLean in all this and could refuse to fire him. In that event, Lamoriello will be fired or will agree to retire next summer.
The other thing to keep in mind is, Lou is old; he will retire in the next 2-3 years probably. MacLean is a coach; so we know he’ll move on at some point. Eventually, Kovalchuk will be the last man standing. He will win all these battles in the long run. They can’t trade him; they have to pay him; they’re stuck with him until he retires. Five years from now, who will be left besides him?
Wait till this year.
I'm fine with the Devils going 4-1 on the trip...
…as long as the loss is on Saturday. That would mean that 4 western conference teams lost this week.
yeah, it's a win-win for the kings
unless the devils beat the kings, which of course could happen. that’s going to be a highly charged atmosphere, with kovalchuk pulls into town.
Wait till this year.
Highly Charged
For certain. It’s Mattias Norstrom night.
