Thursday/Friday: The Points You've Blown, The Record You Need
The Good: (Thursday) Wild lose, Preds lose; (Friday) Kings win, Stars lose, Ducks lose.
The Bad: (Thursday) Wings win, Flames win, Blues win; (Friday) Wild win, Preds win, Avs win.
Which means...
Three-way tie for 3rd. Four points separate 7 from 10. Minnesota, Dallas and Anaheim are pulling away from the pack, in reverse. Nashville, Calgary, Detroit and St. Louis are still duking it out for 7th and 8th. Calgary's next four games are Vancouver, Detroit, Colorado and San Jose -- so much will be clarified by next weekend.
Here are the standings*:
- San Jose Sharks 37 (1) +11
- Chicago Blackhawks 39 (2) +9
- Vancouver Canucks 49 (3) 0
- Los Angeles Kings 49 (4) --
- Phoenix Coyotes 49 (5) 0
- Colorado Avalanche 52 (6) -3
- Nashville Predators 57 (7) -8
- Calgary Flames 57 (8) -8
- Detroit Red Wings 58 (9) -9
- St. Louis Blues 61 (11) -12
- Minnesota Wild 64 (12) -15
- Dallas Stars 64 (10) -15
- Anaheim Ducks 66 (13) -17
- Columbus Blue Jackets 71 (14) -22
- Edmonton Oilers 83 (15) -34
And here's the record each team needs from here on, to get to the assumed (by me) magical point total of 95.
- San Jose Sharks 0-16-0
- Chicago Blackhawks 1-15-0
- Vancouver Canucks 5-10-0
- Los Angeles Kings 5-10-0
- Phoenix Coyotes 5-10-0
- Colorado Avalanche 6-8-1
- Nashville Predators 8-6-0
- Calgary Flames 9-6-0
- Detroit Red Wings 9-5-1
- St. Louis Blues 12-5-0
- Dallas Stars 12-2-1
- Minnesota Wild 12-2-1
- Anaheim Ducks 13-1-1
Columbus Blue JacketsEdmonton Oilers
*standings in points-blown explained: two points "awarded" for every loss, one point for every OTL/SOL. Lowest point total is best. Number in parentheses is the official standings (via ESPN). Last number (+/-) is number of points (in my system) ahead or behind Los Angeles. Because it's a Kings-centric universe.

Reading comprehension has never been a particularly strong skill of mine ;-)

It wasn't very clear
I usually put the games in chronological order and indicate which day is which, but this time i didn’t (I have since changed it, in case people read this after the change and think you’re an idiot). I completely agree it was confusing.
Wait till this year.
