  • AllThingsAvs thinks Rob Blake should be suspended for the Galiardi "hit" in OT. Check out the video for yourself. To me, that's a penalty in regulation, but not a suspension. However, his knee-on-knee hit on Duchesne was worse. I think Blake is too old and his hits are getting questionable because his ass-checking is not as formidable as it used to be. The Avs should be less vocal about calling for a suspension, however. They're going to score more with Blake in the line-up.
  • Great interview with AEG's Tim Leiweke from Rich Hammond, with reader-submitted questions. My favorite response, re Lombardi's famous boxes: "I have to get the lectures on the `boxes’ too. The fans aren’t the only ones that have to listen to the `box’ lecture. I get it often, but he is right. He is correct and, quite frankly, he is amazing with his eye toward development, and the chart and the system. He has been pretty vocal, and we hear him loud and clear, that we still have a few pieces to fill in here."

  • Hockey News' Kings/Canucks preview has this from their anonymous insider: "Vancouver will have its hands full. Vancouver’s depth on defense will get tested because Los Angeles has three lines that will wear you down with the way they cycle the puck. What’s really important is that the Canucks don’t get behind early because L.A. has an ability to cycle and control the game and it’s going to be a tough matchup for Vancouver. The Canucks have some defensemen – guys like Aaron Rome, Shane O’Brien and Sami Salo – who have slow feet in tight places. It’s going to be a challenge for them."
  • Puck Daddy boldly predicts that "people will watch the Kings' games and wonder how the hell they got into the playoffs in the first place." What We Learned: 10 bold predictions for Stanley Cup playoffs - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports

  • Tigers forward lost sleep after huge Jones save
Every once in a while, a goaltender comes up with a stop so miraculous as to throw off the shooter for the rest of the game and even beyond. Forget about the coaching cliche about preaching a short memory, a massive save by Calgary Hitmen goalie Martin Jones made late in the second period of Wednesday night's semifinal matchup disturbed Medicine Hat Tigers forward Wacey Hamilton's sleep. "There's no lying there, I did lay awake thinking about that," says Hamilton. "I think it's pretty safe to say that could've been a turning point in the game for sure [...]" Calgary product Matt MacKay sent a pass through the legs of a Hitmen defender to a wide open Hamilton standing at the side of the net. No hesitation, he fired the shot. But Jones somehow extended his left leg all the way across the goalmouth to make the stop. "I'm still asking myself how he got across like that," said Hamilton.
