Frolov awaits end of epic "Los Angeles" (seriously)

Report: Rangers, Kings interested in Alexander Frolov - ProHockeyTalk - Hockey - NBC Sports
At first it seemed like the Kings were going to part with Frolov, but can you blame them for taking a look too? The team missed out on Kovalchuk and (passed on?) Gagne, so their options come down to the familiar (Frolov) or the risky (someone like Lee Stempniak). Both the Kings and Rangers would be better with Frolov, but each team needs to accept that he will only provide a boost. If their expectations go any higher than that, they're likely to be let down.

Then there's this from  ... from ... I don't really know:

Star-divide

Google Translator gives us the real scoop:

The agent Sergei Isakov: "want more and Frolov Rangers" - - Newspaper Sports Day by Day "

Perhaps, the current off-season can be called one of the most exciting. After the transfer market CHL features such stellar names as Ilya Kovalchuk, Maxim Afinogenov, Alexander Frolov, Evgeny Nabokov, Dominik Hasek ... Someone has a job, but someone else is not.

Some hockey players while still prefer the NHL. Ilya Kovalchuk, for example, signed a contract with the New Jersey as much as 17 years ... - I have always respected and I respect the decision of Elias. In the case of them think that it is too early to go here. Let it play out there. - This summer, you have committed one of the most high-profile hits - in the SKA moved Evgeny Nabokov. There was a lot of talk about that St. Petersburg club would like to get and Alexander Frolov. Now, somehow abated. Clarify the situation.

- From the CAS until all at the level of rumor. I am not in any serious negotiations did not enter. To date, only compliments and sweet talk to Alexander Medvedev and Andrei Tochitskaya. Discussing the possibility of the arrival Frolov. But no specifics. There is no mention of numbers and something else does not say. Indications have not yet been. Let's just say, wait for his visual signal.

- And at what stage of negotiations with Ufa? - Too long on any. Sasha has focused on "Los Angeles". Over the past two days, club, in which our client played eight years as a particularly intensified. He became suddenly take an interest. Now Agent Frolova in North America, Dong-Min has been working on signing a new contract.

- It turns out Frosya, as his friends called him, wants to remain "king"? - Probably, yeah (smiling).

Once said talks with Russian clubs to stop. After all, it wants to see not one team CHL. But he is waiting for the end of the epic "Los Angeles". And at the moment still unknown to what extent can be calculated by the contract. By the way, of great interest to Frolov takes more and the New York Rangers.

It is possible that Alexander will continue his career in New York. Super news! Incidentally, I will first spoke about this. - Alexander Medvedev said that he would like to see in his club as Alexander Frolov, and even one of your stellar customer - Maxim Afinogenov. - Just as Sasha, and expect guidance from Max. Recently, he went to America and said that until August 10, any decision taken will not. But while he still prefers the NHL. You know well, and Afinogenov in that year was overseas. While there he was offered a contract much less than here. But it and it did not stop. In general, to each his own.

You are the agent of the order of sixty players. Employ all? - August 4, Nikita Filatov, flies in the location of "Columbus", Maxim Goncharov, in the same numbers will go to Phoenix. " Vyacheslav Truhno, three years after playing in the phar "Edmonton", moved to Siberia.

That sounds bad. But I was raised on Hogan's Heroes.

How bad was the phar “Edmonton” that Siberia seemed like a better place?

OK, Frolov =Frosya=Sasha. Then throw Filtov into the mix and whadda you get.

An epic Russian novel where, just when you figure out the ten different names each character is referred to as, it ends, leaving you accept that you’ve just completed one of the most important books on earth, when in fact you’ve just a story where everyone is miserable where they live yet life goes on, so forth and so on.

So, if I get this right, the KHL is offering nothing and everyone is happy staying in America (and Canada, except Edmonton).

Now, only question is how many rations can be expected if these guys play, and does it really matter what camp they report (or are sentenced) to?

I don’t know where Frosya comes from, but Sasha’s a diminutive form of Alexander, like calling someone Bob whose name is Robert.

Right, I think it also common to have several “nick names”. One for family, one for friends and sometimes one for work. I’ve read books that trapse through peoples lives and the same person will be referred to by three, four and sometimes five names depending if at work, play, family, friends or official matters.

Dig those crazy machine translations

Everything reads like Japanese “Engrish,” and a paragraph is enough to make you cross-eyed for the rest of the day.

Seriously, it looks like the Rangers could theoretically sign Fro to $4 mil/year, but he’s not getting the $5 mil his camp is said to want. They have $4.4 mil in cap space with 21 signed, and I don’t see them dumping a contract (no matter how small) for Fro.

Realistically, it looks like he could indeed be had for $3.5 mil/year. Which would make it a reasonable proposition to bring him back to the Kings. Make it so!

Also, as long as I was checking in with CapGeek: Vancouver is more than $2 mil over the cap right now! They’re over the minimum roster, so they would just have to dump one of their $3 mil guys, but still; it surprised me. Probably one of their bottom-4 D is expendable.

by DougX on Jul 26, 2010 1:26 PM PDT reply actions

Ah, well that explains it. His hit is about $3 mil, which would cover the difference. CapGeek hadn’t reflected that.

Yeah, if he signs a one year deal for a reasonable amount with the Rangers, I can’t see why we also couldn’t have tried to do that. Unless there’s some out-of-left-field trade in the works.

But nothing’s happened yet. The thought still doesn’t make me happy, though.

Especially considering that everything has said he wants to stay in LA…if this deal is 1yr at a reasonable price (at this point i cant even begin to imagine what DL considers reasonable prices) then why didnt we do it? We have a lil cash to play with, especially for a 1yr deal. I cant even begin to imagine a trade that would make us all feel better about how this has all played out so far…
Kovalchuk-nope
Gagne-nu uh
letting frolov walk-doh!
signing a crappy veteran continuing a cycle that we have seen play out before-priceless!

It seems as if we were never an option for Gagne. He got to choose what team(s) to waive his NTC for. If you were a player who has had a few injuries, wouldn’t you prefer the cushier schedule of the East? I would.

OTOH, it’s possible DL didn’t offer anything for him at all, and he wasn’t even asked. But I don’t know.

It’s a bit early to make predictions about our roster in 2011, but if we use next season to bring up some kiddos and prime them for a more serious run in 2012-2013, I’m good with that. A roster with a short-term Fro on the cheap would be stronger, though.

Definitely…thats all i was getting at…
We have a ton of young talent and if we never toss them in the pool, how will they ever learn to swim…

i just get all juiced up when i think about a full season with Bernier around…
i love quick, but bernier just seems to have that x factor people use when describing goalies…that calmness translates to confidence and for a young group of d men, that alone may be worth the trade off of using youngsters vs buying a high priced free agent or trading for one….’
idk…

Until we know who would replace him, yes

But OTOH, the Kings will take a step forward even without making any big moves this summer just because the goaltending is bound to be better next season with Bernier swapping in for Ersberg.

by DougX on Jul 26, 2010 3:44 PM PDT up reply actions

agreed, but that just means we can win a few more games that are relatively low scoring, assuming we have to roll out a young defensive core that may or may not give up more shots or quality scoring chances….
we still stay the same or move back a step in the scoring dept…possibly stay the same or take a step back on defense (although i think anyone makes me feel better than Jones that doucher) and a combo of Quick and Bernier just makes me smile…so there are positives there to be had…

Looks like the Rangers

TSN is reporting that Fro’s agent says he will sign with the Rangers but the deal isn’t finalized yet. Of course if this off season has taught me anything it is not to believe these reports until pen hits contract paper. But the fact that Alex thinks the Kings mistreated him last season by moving him to the 3rd line, publicly criticizing his play, and benching him (something I tend to agree with), and thus costing him millions of dollars (something I don’t necessarily agree with) it looks less likely that he’d wanna stay with the Kings. Frankly I don’t really blame him, Murray has treated him like shit and Lombardi never seemed to make much of an effort to try to keep him in the fold, e.g., not including his name among what he calls the core, when clearly a 1st round pick with that much talent should be a core guy.

none the less i would like to have him on the team…
