Is this where you plan on having today’s Pension Plan Puppet’s field trip, Chemmy? Do us a favor and keep your feet off the table, save the last Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for us and clean up after yourselves, please. Otherwise, make yourselves at home, Leafs Nation :)

Actually, Chemmy’s Stone brew takes the prize. Arrogant Bastard Ale is bomb.com.
Just don’t expect me to tell you where the Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale is stashed around here :)

They also make it
aged in Rum casks… not just Whiskey… and Scotch and Rye Whiskey’s in particular… but yeah… it’s alright… it can be kinda sweet if you’re not used to it though.

Should be a solid 2nd liner for you guys, a good two-way player.
Just don’t ever expect him to fully take advantage of his size or morph into an elite power forward and you should be perfectly happy with him. Especially because I’m guessing Lombardi got him at a good price (i.e. $3MM or less).
Well I would think that so long as he gets paid less then Frolov then it should make sense. I would think that he is less enigmatic as well, which is a plus

yep
I’d have to agree. This kid went from a late rounder I never expected to make the team into a legit NHLer.
Used in the right way, he’s a perfectly capable scoring winger who’s defensively responsible. Would have loved to have him back as a Leaf but the team’s clearly going in a new direction

This man (?) does not for all of us. Poni is a solid 2nd line LW if he gels with his center. He did in Toronto when he was with Sundin and Stajan, but didn’t in Pittsburgh with Malkin. Good hands, good shot, easily a 20 goal scorer on your team.

Things to expect from Poni
ES goals = He’s had at least 15 ES goals for each of the past 5 seasons.
Not a lot of PP goals = Career high of 6 PP goals, he’s had 5 the past two consecutive years.
A lot of stupid minor penalties… including at least one brain fart that leads to a loss sometime during the season.
Generally solid defensively, good positioning overall… great down low and in the corners… decent passer… works hard in front of the net but often leaves you wanting more wrt his finishing skills… will probably miss a few open nets.
Overall he’s worth it if you got him for under $3 mill per season for 3 or 4 years.
"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm."

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
Ok check that
if it’s a 1 year deal, then I hope it’s for at least $3 mill for his sake.

You can expect him to register
around 40-45 ESP and 10-15 PPP on the season… roughly comparable to Frolov last year, but he provides a more physical game down low.

How much cap room do the Kings have?
I believe cap geek says about 16 mil, so then I would assume somwhere in the 2.5-3.5 range.

oh yes Kaberle! he’s available as well..please take!

by Future_considerations on Jul 27, 2010 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh, it’s not off topic at all…
We were so desperate for puck movers last year we wound up with Randy freaking Jones. But he was such a defensive liability at times, it didn’t work out at all. So we’re back to hoping Voynov or some other prospect like Hickey isn’t too far away.
I don’t know if it’s likely, because of what Burke seems to want. Dean is pretty full-on committed to keeping the young guys who are already roster players, and Schenn will probably make the jump this year. And we have lots of prospects and low-end guys like Scott Parse to trade, but that’s not what you need. It would take a lot to pry Simmonds from DL — he just adores him.
There’s also timing. Getting Kovy would have meant a run now. One year of Kaberle would have been useful for that. It seems we’re back to being conservative and thinking about the long-term.
In Dinglebarn We Trust
Doughty and Johnson aren’t enough on that front?

I was always a fan of poni, but it pains me to say that the lasting memory ill always have of him is getting stripped of the puck in carolina while staring down an open net with about 8 seconds left in the game, Carolina storms back the other way, ray whitney ties it up and the canes win in OT. The leafs went on a horrible slide and I dont think Poni was the same player for the rest of the season.
Still, its ancient history, good luck Poni, I hope you do well in LA.
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"
I punched a MacBook Pro and left a clear imprint of my fist after that OT goal.

My lasting memory is of the Habs game this year where, with 5 minutes left, the crowd started singing “hey hey hey goodbye” and then Poni scored to tie it up.

I actually wanted Poni back. Burke wanted Colby Armstrong. Burke got his way.
A Nation of Masochists

I thought getting Poni back would be a good idea too. Although I don’t think he would have signed the same deal as Armstrong, and I don’t think he would have taken the same deal with us as he did in LA. Here he can put up good numbers for a year, recover from that awful stint with the Penguins and hopefully sign something like 3.5 – 4mil over 4-5 years.
That said, Colby at 3mil3yrs vs Poni at 4mil4yrs? You have something there for sure. Though Im going to avoid starting a 500 comment tangent on a field trip.
I can’t get too cozy here because I can see a Kings vs Leafs SC Final in ‘11-’12 and I sure hope Poni isn’t around to haunt my beloved Leafs.
Kings’ Poni Rides Over Leafs as a headline in the Toronto Sun would make me weep.
Kings Take A Poni Ride Over The Leafs In 7th Game
Ex-Leaf Alexei Ponikarovsky scores his 3rd goal (of the night) 5 minutes into overtime to clinch… Etc, Etc..
