Today's Dumb Trade Rumor
Leafs / Kings trade rumour - Sports Hoopla - Sports Forums, Sports Message Boards, Football Forums, College Football Forums
My source doesn't want to be known, but, here it is: To LA—Kaberle, Grabovski, John Mitchell, Bill Sweatt To the Leafs—Jarret Stoll, Wayne Simmonds, Jack Johnson, Brayden Schenn I think it would be decent for both sides. Leafs continue the youth movement, LA gets some players to help them try to get over the hump a little sooner.
That trade isn't even close to being fair unless you throw in Jonathan Bernier and a couple of 1sts.

AMAZING
That anyone dare put forth such a lopsided rumor continues to amaze me. Shouldnt but does.
Kaberle is a 1 year rental. 2nd rounder and a good prospect?
I apologize
on behalf of all Leaf fans. Kaberle brings out the crazy in us apparently.
Tick Tock, Tomas. Tick Tock.
A drinking team with a hockey problem.
The best part is including Sweatt, whom I understand we no longer have any rights to.

you do for 5 more days
and i like him a lot. i think he should come to the Kings for a middle-round pick, absolutely.
Wait till this year.
Voiding contracts isn't the intent of the NHL
If they go after the other contracts, it would be to get them under an article 26 arbitration to be declared circumvention and would allow the NHL to take away some draft picks.
This would stop the Hossa-style contracts. The NHL doesn’t need to void any more contracts.
You are probably right, and were before, but haven’t they stopped the Hossa-style contracts with the Kovi decision (in effect)? Where’s the payoff for the league to retroactively assess penalties but not void the deals?
I know the chances of Luongo/Hossa/others’ deals being voided are infinitesimal but it’s August, and like Lloyd said in Dumb & Dumber…
I haven’t been over to ILWT, but I’m sure most NJ fans want Lou to submit a 15 year deal since Hossa’s contract was “approved”. If Lou does just “take off 2 years” from the submitted contract, then the NHL will just reject it again.
13 years is the most I would try if I was NJ, but can they afford the cap hit? If they keep the same structure and take away 4 years, the cap hit is over $7.5 million. NJ can’t afford that. Will Kovalchuk take a deal closer to the LA offer of $80/13 to stay in NJ? That remains to be seen.
I think he’s made it pretty clear he wants to test the market. Burke had some pretty harsh words about his agent.

Methinks that somebody had a couple too many Lakeport Pilsners and Molson Exports before posting rumors on the interwebs, eh?

Did Lombardi get fired?
That is the only way that trade would happen. If that offer was on the table, Burke would have pulled the trigger long ago.
Lombardi wouldn’t meticulously build a team by slowly adding pieces to then go and destroy everything that he worked for with one trade.
It may not be so ridiculous
Then the Kings could clear up cap room for Kovi. they might need one more deal, something like Doughty and a first for Doug Weight. Then, we could pay Kovi 10 mill for 17 years.
End Corporate Personhood.
Let me just say this…
Never believe any rumor that includes more than six players. The odds of a 7+-player deal going down are very low, because it’s too plain complicated.
That, and the Kings aren’t trading Johnson AND Simmonds. If they were, then we might as well have just signed Kovalchuk in the beginning. And he’s still ending up with the Devils, anyway.
Denis Gauthier sucks at hockey... and life.
Good rule of thumb. Also, never believe a trade rumor where the Maple Leafs come out on top.

Very true. I think the Phaneuf deal made things a hell of a lot worse from a fan speculation standpoint. Now tons of fans believe Burke can send spare parts and get a star back.
That, plus NHL10, and a medium (Hfboards) where likeminded crazies can interact, this is the inevitable result.
Once again.. I apologize. I swear not all Leaf fans are this stupid, just a bunch with access to the internet.

Aww, you don’t need to apologize for other people. And I think we all know there are some…eh…bizarre viewpoints held by fans of every team. Though I’m sure they’d return the favor and place me on their nutter list too.

Yeah, we have our own...
Anthonyy’s, WWAMD’s, Christabel’s and the like, too!
"That's a nice shirt....you get a bowl of soup with that?"
My favorite part when you read Hockey’s Future or whatever is when someone will offer a crazy trade (Kaberle for Setoguchi and a 1st or something like that) and then when the other teams’ fans say that’s ridiculous, the Leafs fans will say, “Hey, it was offered, so get mad at your own GM for offering it.” Hmm… I wonder who said that was offered… could it have been a Toronto paper that knows people go nuts for that shit?
I still don’t know what Leafs fans are expecting. No team is going to trade for Kaberle unless they’re a contender, and no contender is going to trade a young, top-six player for Kaberle. But that’s what they want. They’re either going to get prospects or they’re going to keep Kaberle. I can’t see another option.
I mean, they have to hold themselves to a high return for Kaberle at this point. I don’t know if Burke can afford to get “KesSeguined” again. Does that work?
