[POLL] Have you heard of...

UNIONDALE, NY - JUNE 25: Islanders fans inexplicably support Rogie Vachon awareness. (Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images for New York Islanders)

This is an old poll (still open) that I thought I would repost since (1) it's summer, and (2) there's a lot more traffic on JftC now, so many members haven't voted. (polls after the jump...)

Mikko Makela...

My favorite all-time Kings’ name.

a.k.a. European Vacation, IIRC. :-)

I think he’s from where they got the movie title “Makela and the Bees”.

What the hell is wrong with the poll? I just voted myself, but I think the leader is Dean Lombardi at only 4% of viewers having heard of the guy? That’s not right.

what's wrong is that it can only count % of total votes. each voter votes about 25 times.

dean lombardi is recognized by 100% of the poll takers, I think.

I would just ignore the %s.

Wait till this year.

Who could ever forget those halcyon days when that awesome duo of Vladimir Tsyplakov and Vitali Yachmenev patrolled the ice for the Kings and anchored the 95-96 season while sweeping all opposition aside?

They were nothing less then the Russian answer to Terry Harper and Dan Maloney on a budget! (at least one of whom could have made the voting “list”)

Excuse me, I think I going to be sick.

Hey man, don’t knock Tsypi. Bel-a-rus! Bel-a-rus!

I still have my Yachmenev jersey tucked away in my closet somewhere.

Terry Harper was a defenseman so I don’t think would compare with either Tsyplakov or Yachmenev. Perhaps you were thinking of Denis Tsigurov — in which case your brain needs a thorough cleaning.

what about...

John Paul Kelly?

Paul Mulvey?

Terry Ruskowski?

(Or, for that matter, Stu Nahan, Pete Weber, Jiggs McDonald… OK, never mind, we’ve all played this game before.)

Wasn't Pete with the Nashville broadcast team as of a couple of seasons ago?

I remember listening to a game, and without warning, Pete and Nick switched up between periods, so that Pete was calling the Kings with Daryl and (presumably) the Nashville listeners had to deal with this complete stranger.

It was darned nice to hear his voice again.

*Off topic* - Hey Quisp (or anyone else),

What other NHL team blog (non-Kings centered) do you recommend?

I want to check out/start following another NHL team’s official/unofficial blog from time to time but I want something balanced. I want to avoid a heavy homer atmosphere if possible. Something as far away from the “Brian Hayward” mentality as possible.

Anthony(y); the legend lives!
Man I wish that dude would reappear on Hammond’s blog. Great theater. I would cringe at the sight of his name, before I even got to his post…

by kiosku2 on Aug 31, 2010 7:30 PM PDT reply actions

that's a really good question that probably deserves its own post. but i'll just whip out a few off the top of my head...

I would start with the SBN blogs, because they are mostly great and because they are interlinked for a seemless experience for you the consumer. I don’t want to mention just one or two because then i would have to mention 10 and then i would piss somebody off. Anyway, I link to them all the time, so I would just follow the links.

Here are some non-SBN blogs for other teams. if you’re not using an rss reader, i would recommend Google Reader. Just put them all in there and away you go.

Russo’s Rants (MIN)
Tom Benjamin’s NHL blog (Canuckscorner.com)
The Battle of Alberta (CGY/EDM)
Lets Go Sharks (SJS)
Orlando Kurtenblog (VAN)
Down Goes Brown (TOR)

My strategy in general is simply, if i like one post from someone, i add them to my reader, and if they end up sucking, i just delete them from the reader. it’s easy in the reader just to blow past stuff that doesn’t strike you. and you don’t have to click through to comments unless you are particularly inspired.

Wait till this year.

Thirded.

Broad Street, Copper and Blue, Defending Big D… but really, browse around.

Today I’m feeling like following Tampa Bay. Yes, I think they’re my Eastern Conference team now. Too bad about those uniforms though.

Wait till this year.

I forgot Mirtle, perhaps because he looms like Galactus above everything else

And I actually think Toronto is a pretty interesting team to follow since (1) they’re in the East, (2) Burke is nothing if not interesting, (3) they’re rebuilding, (4) it’s hockey Mecca, (5) great uniforms, no black in their color palette.

Wait till this year.

Tom Webster! way to stick it to 'em, Webbie.

Is it just me or does a coach need to look like he was at least semi-capable in some athletic pursuit at some time during his life? Every time I saw Webster, I wondered how we survived the 70’s.
