Kings News Grab Bag

NHL Rumours: August Fifth | Bleacher Report
Finally the Los Angeles Kings have offered a trade [to Toronto for Kaberle] that only involves prospects and draft picks. It is said however, that the offer is so good that it is better than San Jose's offer. The only thing I can think of is that Brayden Schenn is part of that deal. It would be Schenn and a first round pick maybe. Burke may not want prospects but he may make an exception for Schenn.

That's just silly. Lombardi is not trading Schenn to Burke for Kaberle. But the idea of a prospect package that doesn't include Schenn going to Toronto is no less troubling. My guess is, this rumor is made-up. Gasp.

Star-divide

Promising goalies poised for breakout - Montreal Gazette
In Los Angeles, Jonathan Quick better look over his shoulder because Jonathan Bernier is quickly approaching everyday duties and could be poised for a breakout year. Despite putting up respectable numbers and backstopping the Kings to their first playoff berth since 2002, Quick could find himself battling for minutes with Bernier, who was named the American Hockey League's Most Outstanding Goalie for the Manchester Monarchs last season. In his brief three-game stint with the Kings in 2010, Bernier went 3-0 with a 1.30 goals-against average, .957 save percentage and a shutout. Although Quick is a promising youngster himself, the future throne in L.A. looks to belong to Bernier.

Sure, they're swayed by homerism a bit (Bernier is French-Canadian), but it doesn't mean they're wrong.

DGB, always funny. I don't really have anything to add to it.

Look for the bit where Robitaille describes telling Gretzky to "wait until I come back" in the middle of a play. Hilarious.

Homerism? I think not

That article on Bernier is from the Montreal Gazette, the only English language daily still published in Quebec. Having lived in Montreal many many years, if the Gazette says something nice about a Quebecois, you can assume that this guy can actually pretty much walk on water. ;-)

Also, the guy who wrote the article is Mackenzie Liddell, hardly a French name.

Watch that right hand

This pugilistic video on Clifford is eye opening. He does not look like he has any fear. (I will concede that some of the video is partially altered; footage is much sped up to make the punching to look more viscious than it is).

Guy looks like a tough customer, but I am not sure how he would do in the NHL with probably much tougher customers as combatants. Some ability for Intimidation could be very helpful to the Kings.

Any thoughts?

He's a big kid, still a kid obviously, but he's physically mature

and he’s got skills. he not a fourth-liner in the Raitis sense of it.

The thing I don’t like about this and most of these youtube fight compilations is the music. I would rather hear the announcers. It’s not the genre of music, just the fact of it. I don’t need to hear “Nobody Does It Better” played over Bobby Orr clips either.

Wait till this year.

to an extent i agree.

But while I do like music, I prefer a combination. My main problem with YouTube hockey vids are the length. No one realizes that you can cut a song down…. they just add footage until the song is over. I get bored after 30 seconds to a minute. So I keep all my vids short unless I have a real plan for them. You have to remember, fan vids are generally not done by real or trained editors. They r done by ppl with computers and lots of spare time.

Knowing how to work a program is not equivalent to knowing how to edit.

Hartnell II

Looks like DL got his own Hartnell with a little less speed.
