Note to Kings Management: PLEASE DON'T DO THIS

NHL JerseyWatch 2011 - Blog - icethetics.info
Apparently the Kings intend to toss out everything and go back to the drawing board in 2011. [...] Icethetics reported in October on photos of possible jersey prototypes seen in Luc Robitaille's office at the Kings' practice facility. They are essentially white versions of the current third jersey [...]. So if I had to guess, the crown logo along with the black and purple sweaters will disappear. Replacing them will be the LA shield logo along with black and white jerseys. And as for the third, obviously the purple and gold throwback is the front-runner. And that suspicion just got a little more meat on it last night when the Kings added nameplates to those jerseys. Surnames are a league requirement on uniforms, but they got away without them for opening night against the Canucks as they were celebrating the 40th anniversary of their first meeting — which was at a time when jerseys didn't have nameplates. So now this is a complete uniform and it looks phenomenal. Fans like it and there's no reason not to keep it around. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's how things shake out for the Kings next season. Black and white regular unis and very colorful thirds. Of course I could be totally wrong and they could be in the process of launching an brand new identity altogether. As I've been saying, we'll really just have to wait and see.
Look. The "Medieval Times" jousting tournament jerseys are bad. They are bad because the crest looks like something from a Arthurian theme restaurant. They are bad because they remind me of that stupid plastic castle the Kings appear out of, and the castle is bad. They are bad because they're all black and white (oh, and silver, yay!), and this decade(s)-long trend toward black (Dallas, New Jersey, Anaheim, Philadelphia) must stop, because it's bad. Color is good. The Red Wings, the Leafs, the Nordiques, the Canadiens, the Oilers, those colors are rich and shimmering in HD, and beautiful. If you don't believe me, go play NHL 11 and put the Avs in the Nordiques jerseys and the Kings in their throw-back purples. See?
Go back to purple and gold. I'm sorry. "Forum blue." I don't care what you call it. But those jerseys look great. They look like hockey jerseys. They're venerable. They look like an old guy with a cigar thought of them, just like those old original six jerseys. They don't look corporate. They don't look like they were designed by market research, by committee, by focus groups. The Kings can win the cup in those jerseys. No, I'm not saying this year. But someday. They can, and should. Picture it. It just looks right.
(If it were me, I would not only go back to the purple and gold, but if I had to have a third jersey, I would use the actual black Gretzky-era chevron jerseys, not some kids-eat-free "homage" to them. And why-why-WHY when the Kings make bad jerseys do they always look like they stole them from crappy chain restaurants? The Islanders did that, too, didn't they? Weird. I guess that would be the corporate/market-research influence, again. It's probably even the same people...)

Just don't bring back the King of Spades jersey
You know one of the all time worst from any team. I like the one Rob Flake is sporting in that picture, purple and gold is a good 3rd but not keen on the shield being the standard bearer. Really at this point just wear what you frickin’ win in! I’ll sign up for pink with polka dots if they freakin’ win in them!
I hate the UPS logo jerseys
Please don’t make that the team’s official jersey. I don’t know if I can even support a team that would wear that.
What would be so terrible about the current logo on the purple and yellow jerseys? Or the Chevy logo on the same?
The 60’s throwbacks aren’t great because they look really dated but they are at least better than those awful current 3rd jerseys.

.. and that brings me to my FIRST actual disagreement with Quispy
All due respect.
And let me take a moment to explain that I actually due mean with ALL DUE respect. I say that because it seems that a high percentage of the throwback jersey fans happen to also be the same fans that have been watching the Kings since… well since those throwback jerseys were actual jerseys. So I get it in that it reminds them of the Kings way back when yet also connects them to a time not so tainted by the evils of corporate sponsorship.
I ….. freakin …. LOVE the new jerseys.
I love them … now … I have only been a religious follower for 12 ish years … and I can tell you I never liked the Gretzky jerseys either.
But there hasn’t been a single Jersey I have ever DISLIKED other than the original god aweful piss YELLOW jerseys.
These new throwbacks that are mostly purple? Eh …
But ever since this new logo and jersey debuted it has been a huge hit with the fans (sales baby) AND the players … as I repeat that they requested the ability to wear them exclusively for the playoffs.
NOTE TO KINGS MANAGEMENT! PLEASE DO THIS!! GOOD STUFF!!!
actually … if you would be so kind as to fire all the old ladies that don’t care I’ve missed the entire first period waiting for a BEER, I wouldn’t care what jersey’s the team wore.
New thirds
I know fans and players like the “new” black jerseys but is it just me or does the logo look like home plate making the whole jersey look like some AAA baseball team? Go back to the shield, at least it has some imagination to it and not just one big, bland logo. Right now the Reign and Monarchs have better jerseys than the Kings.
the Monarchs had better jerseys last year before they changed them.

BringBackTheShieldJersey- Hey that’s my moniker! Do love the Forum Blue and Gold though. But NOT the Yellow ones. Maaayyybe those work without the yellow pants and socks. Home Plate 3rd jerseys absolutely suck.
The gold jerseys look great on NHL 11. I would be willing to consider
white, with purple and gold highlights.
I also think, with gold/yellow, you have to be careful. The “maize” of the University of Michigan is rich and deep and tasty. You don’t want a yellow that looks like weak piss or custard.
I would even be willing to go to a brown-er gold, more in the neighborhood of gold leaf.
Wait till this year.
Agreed. Go back to the Purple and Gold throwbacks. They look great. The old crown is better too.

I like the throwback jerseys, too. I’d love to see them worn most often — and I would be delighted if the Kings wore them in the playoffs at least once per series. As I’ve said before, if the Kings wore the throwbacks while winning the Cup, it would feel like a psychic reward for those of us who have been fans since the purple-and-gold days, a redemption for everything we’ve had to put up with. But maybe that’s just me.
I know that the old color scheme is often mocked, but at least it’s distinctive. And the point of switching to silver-and-black was to emulate the Raiders, which doesn’t seem like such a good idea these days, for a variety of reasons….
