CHI 4, LAK 3 - Postgame Bullets

  • Lucky bounce on the 4th goal. Those things happen.
  • After the Hawks' 3rd goal, the refs gave the Kings three consecutive power-plays -- and yes, they scored on the third one -- but they could have put the Hawks away there. 1-for-5 is not horrible on the power-play, but given the timing of the penalties, they needed to be better.
  • The Justin Williams  (offensive zone) penalty after the Hawks' 4th goal wiped out half of the time remaining. That's a discipline issue.
  • Jack Johnson made what I thought was an amazing play on a 2-on-1 against. The announcers said the Hawks player fanned on the shot, but I thought it was entirely the result of Johnson's lateral move and poke check.
  • Kind of funny that JJ is credited with only one shot on goal, given that two of the Kings goals were tips of his shots. I understand that tipped shots count as a shot for the "tipper" and a pass for the shooter, but maybe someone needs to be keeping track of shots-tipped.

Tyler Toffoli -- Hockey's Future Prospect of the Month, December 2010
Highlighted by a five goal performance, the talented winger managed 22 points in just ten games in December [...]. Toffoli’s five goal game [...] was certainly impressive, but perhaps more so is the fact that he recorded at least one point in every single game this month; in fact, the Los Angeles Kings second round pick is currently riding a twenty game point-scoring-streak. In those twenty games, he’s amassed a total of 44 points and currently leads the OHL in scoring. He’s already close to his point total of 79 last season as his offensive game continues to flourish. [...]

Honorable Mention -- Brayden Schenn

[W]hat’s earned him a mention for December has been his strong offensive play and leadership throughout the World Juniors for Canada thus far. He is the runaway leader in points with 14 in just four games (seven goals and seven assists), and has emerged as the star of the tournament. By most accounts, Schenn is near NHL-ready and he has proven that against the best junior players in the world. He’ll likely get to enjoy a strong second half of the season with Brandon before launching his NHL career in the 2011-12 season.
