Kings 5, Blues 0 - Post-game Bullets

  • I was tempted to comment in the game thread about the last time the Kings had a 4-0 lead in a game. Not that I thought history would repeat itself.
  • Justin Williams did another one of his signature puck-fumbles four feet inside the offensive blue line, but made up for it with two assists.
  • Simon Gagne could have had six goals last night.
  • Dustin Penner played angry. At least I imagine he was angry. In a good way.
  • Terry Murray's little sneer/smile during the introductions was hilarious. I thought for a second he had a blacked-out tooth, like Halloween make-up or something. Maybe it was gum.
  • One of our commenters (who I think is in Europe) commented on a penalty (Ethan Moreau, first period) that hadn't happened yet on the FSW telecast. I was watching live. Is there a time-warp?
  • Jonathan Quick played great but was living right, too. Lots of "Quick" bounces.
  • Slava Voynov made several sharp outlet passes and generally looked solid. I look forward to blazing speed...
  • Anze Kopitar now has a patented aerial pass to go with his patented shoot-out move.
  • Jarret Stoll played his best game so far this year, in my opinion.
  • Jack Johnson played like Jack Johnson in a good way. Maybe he only plays like Jack Johnson in a bad way when Drew Doughty is around. I hope that's not the case, though.
  • I'm noticing something about Mike Richards. I'm not sure what to call it. He always seems to be sticking his nose into the scrum and making something good happen. Lots of little moments of that, here and there.
  • Did anyone else hold his/her breath when Kopitar did that awkward drive/check/fall in pursuit of the puck along the far boards? He needs to not do that anymore.
  • The Trevor Lewis line is somehow faster without Kevin Westgarth on it.
  • My mother-in-law saw me watching the game and thought it was NHL 11.
  • Those of you at the game: how was the light show, smoke, introduction etc.?
  • I was glad to see the white jerseys at home. I wish they would go back to doing that all the time.
  • David Courtney says, "Jamie KOMP'n." Bob Miller says, "Jamie KOM-PAWN." Which is it?
  • The Kings have 7 points after 5 games. Last year, they had 8, en route to a 12-3 start. So that's good.
  • The Kings are 1-1 when outshooting opponents and 2-0-1 when being out-shot.
  • The Kings' power-play has either out-scored (2 times) or been even with (3 times) their opponents' power-play in every game.
  • Williams and Kopitar have points in every game.
  • Mike Richards has three points, one in each of the Kings' three wins. His W% is a perfect 1.000 when he scores. Dustin Brown and Willie Mitchell, each with two points, are also batting 1.000.
  • Jonathan Quick leads the NHL in save-percentage, at .960. He's second in GAA, with a pathetic 1.20. Nikolai Khabibulin's is 0.96.
  • Kopitar is tied with Phil Kessel for the league lead in points, with 9. Kopitar is nicer, though.
  • Gagne (7 points) is second in the league in scoring by left-wings, one point behind Thomas Vanek
  • Williams (7 points) is second in the league in scoring by right-wings, behind Kessel. Williams is nicer, though.
  • Gagne (+6) is third in the league in plus/minus. Kopitar and Williams are +5. Plus-6 is tops for forwards.
  • Kopitar, Gagne and Williams are all tied for second in the league in even-strength points -- they each have 6 -- two behind Kessel.
  • Jack Johnson leads the Kings in power-play points, with 4. Tops in the league is 6 (Brian Campbell).
  • JJ's two game-winners, and two OT goals, are both tops in the league.
  • All of Mike Richards' points have been on the power-play.
  • Penner leads all Kings in penalty minutes, with 19.
  • Jack Johnson has been on the ice for 11 Kings goals this year (out of 14 total), and 3 goals-against. Those 11 GFONs are tops on the Kings and second in the league, one behind Kris Letang.
  • Moreau leads the team in hits, with 14. Followed by Matt Greene, Stoll...and then Brown, with only 8 hits.
  • The Kings are 11th in GPG with 2.80.
  • The Kings are 3rd in GAA at 1.80.
  • Power-play is 6th, at 25%.
  • PK is 17th, at 83.3%.
  • The Kings have allowed 9 goals against this year, 3 in each period.
  • The Kings have allowed a goal-against within 3 minutes of a Kings goal-for only one time so far, against Philadelphia, and that was on a Flyers' power-play. They haven't coughed one up at even-strength at all. Knock on wood.
