Kings' Prospects Stats - Monday 10/24/11

Here are the updated numbers. For reference, here is the www.behindthenet table ratios/conversion rates:

League Translations: how do other leagues stack up against the NHL?

  • Russian Elite League 0.83
  • Swedish Elite League 0.78
  • Czech Republic League 0.74
  • Finland SM-Liiga 0.54
  • Deutsche Eishockey League 0.52 [...]
  • AHL 0.44 [...]
  • Switzerland National League 0.44
  • NCAA 0.41
  • Canadian Major Junior 0.30

The idea being, for example, that one goal in NCAA is the rough equivalent, in terms of difficulty, of 0.41 goals in the NHL. Obviously, there's lots of room to disagree with the specific numbers, but I'm willing to play along.

I am using the behindthenet numbers as a way to list all of the Kings prospects in one sortable stat sheet. If you think the equivalencies are bunk, then just sort by the league column.

I added two new columns: '10-'11, which gives the player's PPG for the previous season, provided that he played in the same league as this year; and up/down, which subtracts last year's PPG from this year's.

On Toffoli...

… I maintain that CHL stats have to be adjusted on a year-by-year basis. There’s a bigger discrepancy between players in junior due to maturity / physical development than there is later on.

WTF is up with Kozun, King, and Kitsyn?

Pick your game up, boys.

For Kitsyn, playing in the KHL is a big difference. Younger players aren’t given as much time since there are older players with more experience. In his previous 70 games experience in the KHL, he had 9 goals in 70 games before putting up 9 in just 32 games in the OHL last year and another 10 in just 20 playoff games. Not knowing how many minutes he is playing or if he gets any PP time, it is hard to judge his game really being so far away.

The KHL is the second best league in the world

And he’s 20… He’s promising sure, but there’s a reason he’s a 6th round pick… Plus, vets get the nod more than youngsters over there, they have the MHL for the youngsters… Unless of course, you’re Vladimir Tarasenko…

King and Kozun will get going soon enough…

One sword keeps another in the sheath.

Fair point about Kitsyn. I’d really to see him on the Kings just because his jaw is so effing epic.

Does anyone know if Kozun was kinda injured in training camp this year?
