Tyler Toffoli, what number should he wear? 15? 17? 19? 21?

Wow, scary musical taste. But that snowy weather sure brings back memories and even gets the adrenalin going. Spent several years in Ottawa as a yout’, played hockey with a number of future NHLers, and a ton of guys that played junior and / or AHL.
I’m all in wrt Toffoli. No idea how he’ll turn out (Mike Bossy), but he represents some major scoring hope for a team that can’t buy a goal right now.
Has Toffoli been called up?
Have I been living under a rock?
Far from a sure thing
He is not good enough to play at WJC, why do you think he will be an NHLer? Stats in the OHL don’t automatically translate to the NHL.
Sorry you are wrong about Toffoli
Osaka19, maybe you are from Japan. Toffoli will make it in the NHL. I suggest you review the Canada and USA cuts before making a comment. There were some awfully good players cut from both teams. You should be aware that Team Canada and USA coaches fill their rosters based upon roles, etc. plus how the players performed in a very SHORT period of time. Toffoli reminds me a lot of another average skater with great shot that played for my Kings. His name was Luc Robitaille. Remember him? 600+ goals and picked in the 9th round of his draft year.
I hope your right
I live in Japan now but I am not “from” Japan, if that matters. I am from California, Philly, and Michigan. I played hockey since I was 5 years old if that geographical reference has to do with my hockey knowledge. Rick Nash never scored more than 32 goals in the OHL but Guy Leveque has score 41 in the O. Jeff Shevalier has scored 59 goals in the O. Don’t fall in love with numbers a guy puts up in Jrs, doesn’t mean he is going to be a good NHL player. Nash had game and the package, he was projected to score more in the NHL than he ever did in Jrs. Toffoli isn’t projected to amount to much. I don’t take pleasure in the fact, just reality. There are guys that beat the odds so lets hope he does. I guess we won’t know if I’m wrong for a few years but this guy looks like a future career AHL player.
because (1) i've seen him and (2) the Kings don't have anyone on their current roster -- to say nothing of their system -- who can do what Toffoli can.
LA doesn’t have a goal scoring prospect, doesn’t mean it is handed to Tyler by default. That means that is an area of concern that needs to be addressed. As you point out with our “system”, how much success could he have? Is he effective if he isn’t scoring goals?
i was referring to the depth chart when I said "system"
your point, that scorers in juniors or minors don’t necessarily become scorers in the NHL, is well-taken as a general point.
Tyler Seguin was cut from the 2009 world junior team, yet Angelo Esposito made the roster. So as mrmickey points out, whether or not one makes the roster is a weak basis for evaluating future NHL talent.
Angelo was a blue chip prospect, that proves the point though, he was a great Jr player who’s game didn’t translate to the NHL.
No I wasn’t disagreeing with the fact that junior stats often don’t carry over; I mentioned your comment about not making the world junior team. I’ve seen tons of players with gaudy stats fail to make it at the next level over the years. Sticking with the Robitaille theme, look up the late Guy Rouleau, Luc’s onetime linemate with Hull. Granted he was a little small…
Seguin is the player that didn’t make the tourny in spite of being a consensus top 2 pick in the upcoming draft.
Esposito road the coattails of Radulov to insane rookie numbers in the Q, and then did ok alongside some good, albeit very short, junior players later in his junior career. I’m guessing he’ll be in Europe soon enough, showcasing his talents.
Others who didn't make the WJCs:
Tyler Seguin
Logan Couture
Ryan Nugent Hopkins
And other stars through the years. I wouldn’t go by that.

Very few of those types of players actually make it.
Jeff Shevalier and Bob Wren are just two of many that come to mind.
how about luc robitaille?
I think your forgot about two “poor skaters” who are both in the Hall of Fame. Mike Bossy and Luc Robitaille. You put too much emphasis on who makes the WJC teams.
I hope I'm wrong
It isn’t that I put too much emphasis on the WJC, I just put emphasis on guys who have the complete package because they have a realistic shot of making it. The fact you have to point out Robitaille proves my point that is is an anomaly a player with his skating making an impact in the NHL. You point out one that excelled in spite of his skating, what about the thousands that didn’t make it because of their skating.
Scouts think he's good...a pure sniper
I don’t think many prospects much less players are the ‘total package.’ Time will tell.
