Murray wants more from Loktionov " LA Kings Insider
Murray wants more from Loktionov Posted by Rich Hammond on 6 December 2011, 9:30 am Andrei Loktionov got called up from the AHL after injuries to Dustin Penner and Scott Parse. Shortly thereafter, he got moved to his natural position of center, where Loktionov is presumed to be more comfortable and productive. Still, the points have not followed. Nine games into his latest stint with the Kings, Loktionov has zero goals and two assists. [...] Terry Murray would like to see some production from the young center, who is expected to play on the third line tonight with wingers Dustin Penner and Ethan Moreau.
MURRAY: "I need more. I need more from him. He’s getting a pretty good opportunity here to show us what he can do as a player in the center of the ice, playing consistently in an important role. I’d like to see that creativity, that offensive look that I had a good sense for when he was here last year. [...] It’s not quite there yet [...].
If you want him to be more "creative", how about giving him some line-mates who aren't enforcers or reclamation projects in massive career-worst slumps? Here's another idea: put him on the power-play, instead of (say) Trent Hunter. Yes, I know, Hunter has a different role. Give that role to the Dustins. And let the other PP forwards be Kopitar, Gagne, Loktionov and Williams. Is that really so hard to figure out?
As I mentioned in another context the other day, after Kopitar, Richards and Gagne, the rest of the team has between zero and two even-strength goals. The rest of the entire team.

I’ve been trying to stay away from anti-Terry Murray blog commenting but he is making it really hard.

The one thing I don’t like from Murray, and Quisp has pointed it out before, you can’t get “more” from someone when you enforce a specific system. You can’t have them “step-up” when they’re being told exactly what to do and trying to do that well. When you play such a systematic-based game you can’t get more from people easily. And, frankly, if he wants more from Lokti the second line is where he belongs with the same linemates Murray gave Richards.

If only. I guess playing well with Gagne and Williams after Richards went out is a sign you shouldn’t do that?

When I read the article on LAKI, and then scanned the comments, not one person (other than myself) pointed out that…….. um….. maybe putting him w Moreau wasn’t the best situation to help him succeed.
But, it’s fine. Really it’s fine. I’m used to it now. Teddy Purcell02.
I also held my venom so it’s nice to see Quisp tell it like it is.
Oh, and one thing I noticed last week; I saw TB play on Versus. Can’t remember the opponent or specifics, but the announcers called out TP on an error that he made.
Well, I also noticed that he wasn’t benched nor sent down to the fourth line because of it.
And… he actually made a beautiful saucer pass after that to set up a goal – and the fact that he made up for his mistake was duly noted on the broadcast.
and then scanned the [LAKI] comments
Well, that is your first mistake right there, amigo.

TM really has no clue.
I’ve given up trying to figure out why TM does things the way he does. There is no rhyme or reason. I’m beginning to think that he is going to stunt Loktionov’s development.
And for god sakes, please put him on the 1st PP unit. And put Voynov in there as well.
Loktionov-Kopitar-Gagne with Voynov/Johnson
I guarantee you will see creativity, movement, and maybe even a few goals.

If the Kings miss the playoffs I won’t even be mad. As long as it gets him fired.
I looked at the possession stats when we’re down by a goal. We’re second to last in the ENTIRE LEAGUE.
And it’s not like he doesn’t have the pieces. It’s just as if he actively tries to make the most dysfunctional 2nd-3rd lines known to man.

I love Loki, but Murray has a point. Regardless of who his line mates are he has been a step behind a lot of the time on plays. And I wouldn’t want Murray to say he’s done better because he does only have two assists in 10 games and we all know we can expect more from him. I can see why he’s not on the PP because you can only have so many set up guys. Hunter sucks but he is a shooter and Loki has taken about 6 shots it seems in his 10 games.
For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.

Brown is not a set-up guy. Doughty, Johnson, and Voynov are all more than capable shooters. The PP needs more creativity; it is too stagnant and predictable.
He’s not gonna play the point. If he’s out with Williams and Gagne on the second unit no one is going to the net. I’d rather see him out Kopi and Penner on the first unit and Brown with Gagne and Wiliams on the second unit. Another reason maybe he’s not putting Loki out there is Loki hasn’t been very strong on the boards and keeping the puck. He’s been good at picking pockets but that’s more useful as a PK skill. Also t think Murray wants to get Hunter going.

What a coach….that cuts both ways.
Are Teemu Selanne and Melanie Griffith Twins?
and he's a hockey fan, too
Sits on the lower 102s when he goes.

Seriously, WTF
You put him with Penner (ok) and Moreau (sh*t) on the third line, he’s not on the PP, where his creativity might shine through, and you want more from him…
FUCK YOU MURRAY…
I look in the mirror, and I don't like what I see. So I bought a new one.
Quisp, sorry to ask, but just wanted to double check. So there is no one else on the entire team who has scored more than 2 even strength goals so far other than the ones mentioned, right?
I sort of had assumed as much anyway, as after DB Williams there is no other forward who has more than ONE goal, sorry…. one goal this season. And I knew that a majority of JJ’s were on the powerplay.
I didn’t know that Brown only had two 5-on-5 though.
Kings are 29th in the NHL in 5-on-5 goals since Murray was hired (272 games).
This isn’t a new problem and it won’t be fixed by trying harder. The Kings just don’t have players in offensive positions enough to generate scoring chances. The majority of the Kings shots come from outside the scoring zone. More shots /= more goals.
The Kings are currently 30th in 5-on-5 goals this season.
