Brayden Schenn's WHL season is officially over -- now on to...where?
Manchester or Los Angeles?
(p.s. Saskatoon was just swept out of the WHL playoffs, in case that needs explaining.)

The real question is...
Can he, REALLY, be called up for the playoffs?
"Soo many games, soo little time"
Manchester
according to this http://twitter.com/#!/DarrenDreger/status/58370030391406592
manch is as likely as LA at this point, but i put zero stock in darren dreger's inside "scoop"
especially since he tweeted it before tonight’s game
Wait till this year.
"Iām a little torn on it. On one hand you want to have access but we made the commitment to go this route. I want to see him win."
This quote by Lombardi still makes me think that he’s coming to the Kings. Why would you want access just to send him to the AHL? If he’s a little torn on wanting Schenn to win or having access to him, I have to think that means he would put him on the big club with that access.
i might have posted this before but
really … this is nothing but a good thing for Brayden and worth the contract burn for us.
1) he’s a rookie … if he makes a huge impact great … if he falls flat on his face, hey.. you’re a rookie
2) Is it just me or does throwing a player like him in the mix NOT cause headaches for the opposing team? Yes Schenn would have to adjust Terry’s system but the Fins would have to adapt to a relative unknown …
3) Very few people have talked about the benefits of Brayden having NHL Playoff experience going into next season … however it turns out… i can’t see the negatives.
4) Contract Shmontract … Burn IT … Play Em … Damn The Torpedoes, Grab the Reigns, HEAD FOR THE SUN!!!
I’m still not certain if playing in playoff games counts toward the 10 “NHL” games that would = a year played, thus burning a year off whatever level he’s at. I’ve seen it both ways.
The CBA is clear, if he plays two more NHL games, it burns a year off his contract. It does not count as an accrued season for UFA status though. Of course, UFA status could change with the new CBA. Having Schenn become an RFA a year earlier could actually help the Kings with negotiations. It certainly helped the Kings with Johnson’s second contract.
yes, it counts. there is no other interpretation. the CBA says "NHL Games" cap N cap G, which is a formally defined term in the glossary of the CBA
defined as regular season AND PLAYOFF games.
no question.
Wait till this year.
I wonder how much of an impact tomorrow will have, if any. Assuming it’s too tight time wise to send Brayden in, not to mention the lack of practice with the big team, how important is Game 1’s outcome? If Kings win it has to make it easier to not play him. They lose, and depending on what kind of loss, it would be tough to argue against giving the kid his one free game at least to see how he does.
I get the feeling that Schenn is going to get called up but then regularly scratched from the line-up with the explanation that he is there for emergency purposes.

He’s not ready for the NHL playoffs… At least he proved in his short time in Manchester that he can handle the AHL, so on to Manchester…
Angelofdeath? Ringing any bells? He's dead.

Sometimes you just gotta let them go...
…and grow up on their own.

Can’t see calling him up just to sit him when he could be playing in Manchester.

not just "playing"
but “playing” bigger, more important minutes in arguably a more demanding role. Lombardi wants to see him be a winner, then let’s see how he does with a big role (bigger compared to what his initial spot in the lineup and expectations with the Kings would be) in Manchester.

Brayden to NHL
Toffoli went to AHL and scored a goal I believe in his first game. Rather keep Toffoli there for seeing how he performs and not have Schenn there too. Bring Schenn to Kings and use him in spot situations limiting his ice time. I do not think it makes sense to have both Toffoli and Schenn in Manchester. Mickey
Question for Quisp
Can the Kings call Schenn up to LA and then re-assign him to Manchester if/when they are eliminated from the playoffs, assuming the Monarchs are still alive?
Yes, they can do that.
the whole question here is really about whether they want to burn the first year of his ELC or not.

I think there is also the question of whether they think he is ready. If that was the only question, there wouldn’t be a question. Lombardi owes it to the Kings’ fanbase to ice the best possible team during the playoffs.
Which is a Pretty Significant Question
Given he’s only played half a dozen or so NHL games.
Indeed, it is
As I’ve said before, a lot of the current level of buzz surrounding Schenn is based on stuff he did at the junior level. Obviously, he’s good enough to dominate in juniors, but when he had his chance at the NHL earlier this season, he showed that he was ready for the AHL, but maybe not the big league.
And now we’re supposed to throw this kid into the cauldron of the NHL playoffs and expect him to help the team right away? Possible, but it strikes me as rather unlikely that he’d make a significant difference. It isn’t clear to me that he has improved sufficiently from the kid at the start of the season who maybe could have stuck as a bottom 6 forward, but was actually better off playing top 6 minutes in the AHL.
