What? no explenation? lol

Seriously, I like your chart.

I’m guessing your red lines are seperated by 1rst and 2nd lines, then depth players. 3rd and 4rth lines, then depth players. Then D, then goalies.

Do you see only 3 D on the right? or are you seperating by offensive, midway, then stay at home?

Nevermind. I just answered my own question. Don’t mind me, I’m a little slow.

I was going to explain but I decided to leave it up to interpretation.

top6 blue-collar and/or big bodies
top6 small, quick and/or snipery
bottom six defensively-responsible stopper line guys (i.e. intelligent two-way forwards, the future Handzuses and/or Belangers)
fighters and pests (yes, simmonds and Clifford are not in this category, because they transcend it)
offensive defensemen
hybrids
stay-at-home d
goalies

Wait till this year.

Wingers

I like this visualization. Convinces me even more we need 1 more proven NHL winger and center if we don’t keep Zues. On wing I like Leino, Gagne or Upshall. All UFA and connected to Philly, which seems to be a DL requisite. Ha. Jk. But I do like those 3 guys.

It's late, and I'm going to bed.

Been up late watching movies with my girlfriend.

Wanted to add that we don’t have a single left handed shot anywhere in the entire system, on right wing. I just find that odd, that not a single one shoots left, even though we have some right handed shots on left wing, and both left and right handed shooting centers.

Maybe it’s coincidence, or design, I don’t know. Just found it odd.

-I don’t think Deslauriers has passed Hickey on the depth chart quite yet.
-Does Nolan actually play center? I know he’s listed there but it seems like they would’ve moved him over by now because I don’t see much chance of him playing center in the NHL.
-Poor Matt Greene looks so lonely over there. I wish I could figure out which left-handed defensemen have played on the right before. I know Johnson & Scuderi can do it. Hickey seems like he could do it.

The West Coast is the Best Coast.

In an alternate universe Hickey never had to deal with the pressure of being drafted as a “reach” and also never broke his ankle, so he’s just a normal, happy, NHL-bound young man.

Eff it, I knew when I found out they drafted him I could never be that happy. Deal him to another team before I break down in tears.

Hickey has a better chance of making the team this year, and I wouldn't get too down on his chances overall.

Hopefully, Lombardi will lock him up with a nice affordable deal and he will get a couple more years to grow.

Wait till this year.

I didn’t mean to sound like I was down on his chances of making it into the league — it’s just hard for him to be a King. Like defrim says below, it’d be different on almost any other team. It’s frustrating, because I like him and I want to see him succeed.

In the big picture, of course, it’s great that we have boatloads of defensemen.

Darn close.

That’s what I saw anyway.

The depth at defense is scary, because if Hickey was drafted by almost any other team, he probably would have been a rookie playing 40 to 60 games already. This is just my own opinion (and I’m not always right), but Hickey didn’t take a step back, Martinez just took a huge leap forward.

That leap doesn’t take away from Hickeys developement statis (which is right on track, minus the time missed to injury), it just means the Kings don’t have the room to adjust his learning curve at the NHL level yet. He has to be an impact player now, just to make the roster.

He could be just like Quincy (when he was with Detroit), being burried by depth, and just needs the opportunity to play regularly.

I think he’s a top end D-man waiting to thrive with a team that’s to deep to afford him big minutes. Don’t be surprised if he ends up making things really, really hard on the coaching staff this next camp.

These are all very good points. To be honest, I was a bit surprised he challenged for a spot last camp, just because he’d lost so much time.

But he can be very good in this upcoming camp and still not make it. There is simply not much room. The biggest challenge for him is to be able to overcome all those obstacles and bad breaks by getting tougher mentally. I would love to see him get his confidence back and shine — when he was a Thunderbird, he flat out owned that team. Kind of hard to express how much, really. People talk about his size, but I think that’s the missing element they want to see.
