Oh, so it's a conditional pick, but we don't know
what the conditions are. Riiiiight. Okay. Anyway, the Ryan Smyth era is at an end. One hundred points in 149 games. Clearly an important element of each of our last two (very successful) seasons. It's highly likely that without him we would have missed the playoffs. And there were long stretches of either season in which his line was the best line on the team; for a couple of weeks, they were even the best line in the league. So I won't mention that his points-per-game was not quite as good as Ladislav Nagy's.
I expect the Oilers to have a pretty good year next year.

What ???
Is that true, Nagy was a better scorer during his tenure with the team? I am not sure what to think about that. Maybe he scored a lot of goals on a bad team…

LOL
The team is still a black hole of sucktitude. Smyth doesn’t change that. Unless they can clone him, teach him to play D and G, and fill out the bottom 6 with some Smyth clones, then they’d probably make the playoffs. Joke team is a joke.

I'd say If Ladysglove was on the Kings another season?
He’d crumble and go 38 games without a point and screw up your ratio. lol
He was no Dan Quinn that’s for sure.
So is it done?
I heard Tambellini is refusing to confirm…

Yeah, I think Nagy had a 5 point game with the Kings that season too. He was more hot and cold than a Katy Perry song wearing an Icy Hot Patch.

I’m having a hard time being as happy as most of the posters about losing a 20+ goal scorer and team leader. I’ll defer celebrating until I see how we spend the extra cap space, of if it just goes into AEG’s coffers.
Thank you for saying this. It’s not the best situation, to be sure. At first I thought DL was desperate for capspace, but reading the interview makes it seem like Smyth really put him in a bind.
I believe Smyth is honorable enough that he would not have asked for something like that unless there was a pressing need. We could be worse off for it, but I can live with that.

i somehow feel..
that there may be some sort of medical issue with his parents….thus prompting SMYTH to ask to be traded, rather than Deano just trading away the cap hit ya know….keep in mind this probably wasnt a trade Dean had come up with on his own accord….smyth was probably happy here and happy to be a king, but family comes first…just another example of a classy guy doing whats right for just about everyone involved….hats off to him…he didnt suprise dean the day before the draft…or during the preseason…he gave him time to work it out and let him know his intentions from day one….
sad to see him go -sure…..but you cant be upset about it at all….he probably wont score 20 goals next season anyway….just my thoughts….

Ryan Smyth update: LA-EDM had agreed to deal (Brule and a pick), Smyth waived NTC but all reportedly fell apart over Brule’s health. #tsn
We actually want Brule?

Boys & girls:
Should we begin considering what would happen if no trade occurs?
I guess the question for me is: do we want it to?
Even with Smyth we should have enough to be comfortable with Doughty. One Richards lessens the need to go all out for the other, not that I thought DL would be down with the price BR’s going to command. And we don’t have Simmonds to re-sign, or Schenn’s no-bonus-cushion contract to worry about. If we keep Smyth we no longer have to run out and get a replacement LW. Worse case scenario, we could move someone else if Doughty isn’t close by the 1st and they’re actually worried about offer sheets to make more room. E.g., Greene. But I think Doughty will be taken care of soon.
Interesting thought experiment.
