Smyth Trade Finally Official

Ryan Smyth has been officially traded to the Oil. Coming back to the Kings is a 7th round draft pick and Colin Fraser. This is an excellent trade for The Kings, as Fraser only has an 825K cap hit, and his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season. Also, it is perfect for Edmonton, as they now have a veteran winger who can be an excellent mentor. Furthermore, for both teams, it removes over 6 million from The Kings Salary Cap, and moves Edmonton 6 million closer to the Cap floor, while only costing The Oil 4ish million in real money. Finally!

I forget if it was Rudy or Nut who said this first, but allow me to echo their sentiments and say that I really hope the Kings can bring in Jussi Jokinen to replace Smyth.

With the short UFA list, he’s been on a lot of people’s lists for a while.

Not an offer sheet. But the arbitration results will give the Devils some idea of whether or not they can afford to keep him after arb contract runs out. That’s when you swoop in with a trade offer.
