Hitting in the head when someone is down and pinned

That’s not a penalty, wearing a visor and starting a fight after a vicious hit on a team mate (the supposed entire reason why fighting is allowed in the NHL), that’s a DOUBLE penalty.

The Stars just jumped to a tie for 2nd in my most hated teams. Vancouver at #1 and the Sharks and Stars at #2. Bastards.

There is greatness in all of us, but only those who work hard and take responsibility for themselves realize it.

by Surfdudeken03 on Jan 12, 2012 10:55 PM PST up reply actions

Charging?

Are you effing kidding me?

These refs are a joke. This is another game the Kings are getting fucked by the refs against a conference opponent. There should have been that penalty when they scored their 3rd goal because of a trip on Doughty that wasn’t called. Kings should have won in regulation just like that game last week against Colorado when Williams’s goal was disallowed even though his stick was clearly about 6 inches below the bar.

The officiating in the NHL is an absolute joke.

by Garrett79 on Jan 12, 2012 10:22 PM PST reply actions

This was a terrible call…I had 4 friends over watching the game. All 5 of us were screaming at the tv…couldn’t believe that call.

There is greatness in all of us, but only those who work hard and take responsibility for themselves realize it.

by Surfdudeken03 on Jan 12, 2012 10:41 PM PST up reply actions

WORST OFFICIATING EVER

That was beyond a doubt the worst officiated final 10 minutes I’ve ever seen in my life. Doughty gets charging and a game misconduct for doing nothing (a.k.a. being pushed into the goalie and wearing a Kings jersey). Then, two guys punching Williams in the head while he’s on the ground with NO instigator, third man in, roughing, or anything.

That was utter and complete horseshit.

Terrible Officiating and Stupid Fucking Rules

Instigating with a visor another two minutes and a hit into the heat and into the boards not even a penalty. Fucking stupid.

But right, the refs were idiots as well.

by Cool Dudes on Jan 12, 2012 10:33 PM PST up reply actions

basically the league is saying, if you choose to care about your eyes and wear a visor, never get in a fight, if you want to get in a fight ever in your career, hope you dont mind possibly losing an eye.

by hopesfall on Jan 12, 2012 10:53 PM PST up reply actions

The hit was clean and the visor rule makes sense. Souray getting away with 2 minutes was the ridiculous part.

by RudyKelly on Jan 12, 2012 11:05 PM PST up reply actions

The fact that the hit was "clean"

is the reason the rule is so stupid. No, the visor rule doesn’t make sense, because fighting is not a fucking part of the game of hockey. Its a side show entertainment after play has stopped and any rules catering to it are just fucking stupid. Call it what it is, don’t dress up a pig.

by Cool Dudes on Jan 13, 2012 10:39 PM PST up reply actions

“because fighting is not a fucking part of the game of hockey.”

This is clearly wrong, but I get it, you don’t like it.

by BobKnob on Jan 14, 2012 11:16 AM PST up reply actions

What a farce

The fact that Dallas gets rewarded for Morrow taking Kopitar out on a hit like that by getting a 4-minute power play, on which they tied the game, and then the bonus shootout point because three of the Kings’ best players were forced to sit out is a joke.

There was no good reason for calling an instigator on Richards. Morrow instigated the fight by taking a blindside shot at the Kings’ best player but because Richards does the right thing (at least in hockey terms) and fights him, the Stars get the extra point.

Honestly, “farce” is the only polite word I can think of to use for this scenario.

Peel

You can peel your helmet off before you pound them in the face. Because it was called on us does not mean it is a bad rule. Surprising they made that call with completely being inept most the game.

by kevin_ebel on Jan 13, 2012 7:22 AM PST up reply actions

Completely agree

I honestly can’t believe my eyes. Who the fuck gets called for an instigator in that situation? 4 minute instigator, sit out the fucking game. Nice hit on Kopitar, head in the boards!! Nice shit here’s 4 minutes and a Bettman point.

Oh yeah, and the puck went in the net in overtime anyway, but the refs were too busy calling “charging” on Doughty.

Who the fuck hired these clowns?

by Niesy on Jan 12, 2012 11:37 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

I think Doughty deliberately did an elbow drop on the Stars goalie, and not because Souray pushed him. That’s why Souray went balistic. That said, I think Doughty was giving back a little bit of “two can play at that game – I can fuck with your goalie too” in response to the scrum he had earlier with Ott, where Ott had made a dangerous play with his skate at Quick’s glove hand. So I don’t have an issue with Souray piling on Doughty. I do think it was pussy when he went after an occupied Williams though.

by Choralon3 on Jan 12, 2012 11:13 PM PST reply actions

Not defending Ott AT ALL (he is my #1 hated player in the entire NHL … well Ribeiro too), but it really wasn’t that dangerous of a play on slow mo. Besides, the puck was loose, so any one of us would have done the same.

Souray jumped on Williams, after Williams had popped Souray in the face really good a couple times, (which Willy did because Souray was going hard after Doughty.) And Doughty was pushed with nowhere else to fall but on top of Lehtonen.

by OneTimer. on Jan 12, 2012 11:28 PM PST up reply actions

True that. Williams got a few free shots on Souray. It was just a huge clusterfuck and I can easily file it all under “hockey has moments like those sometimes.”

It would be a hell of a playoff series if both teams could make it there, wouldn’t it?

by Choralon3 on Jan 13, 2012 12:59 AM PST up reply actions

It would be a edge-of-the-seat bloodbath … and I don’t know if my heart could stand it. (And I’m a very healthy, fit guy!)

And this is the precise reason we got Mike Richards…

If the kings wanted to fight I’m pretty sure they have a guy named Westgarth and a guy named Clifford who can fight. We don’t need a POS like Avery.

by DMcD on Jan 13, 2012 9:59 AM PST up reply actions

‘cept who will dance with Westy? Certainly not Ott or Morrow or Ribiero. And he doesn’t do that good of a job of picking up dance partners anyways. And Cliffy seems to be shying away from fighting this year, for the most part. I wish Brownie was a bit more like Lucic.

Not sure if Souray would go with Westy, even though it’d be an appropriate matchup. Someone does need to send a message to Steve Ott, like what the Bruins did to him last year for taking runs at everyone the year before. It was a glorious game, about 4 players on Dallas paid (about 1-2 were out for additional games) for Ott’s cheap play.

I agree with what he said and said the same thing. It’s one of the spots where the old guard caveman ways haven’t caught up with modern safety (Visor! He must be some kind of euro-wussy! Instigator!) leading to cognative dissonace in the rules.

by Choralon3 on Jan 13, 2012 12:57 AM PST up reply actions

The more I think about it, I don’t see how they could not hold Kopi out just as a precaution. Even if there is no concussion (which I dearly hope), his neck and shoulders must hurt like hell.

To top it off, I think Richards is still not his complete self since returning. They are going to have to buckle down on this road trip and get it done regardless.
