Screens and tips. That’ll be key to beating Lu tonight.

Not sure why my brother thinks it’s okay to blast music while I’m watching the Kings game.

A lot of interference and holding by Ballard on his last three shifts…when is he call going to come?
Are Teemu Selanne and Melanie Griffith Twins?
Did Jimmy Fox really just bust out a Jai Alai reference on that Canucks goal?
Somebody’s been drinking too much red wine and watching Mad Men episodes on the road.

News & Views
News: That blond girl in the FSW Kumho Tires commercial is ridiculously good looking.
Views: Does anyone really want to buy tires after watching that commercial? Or would you rather try skimboarding while being towed by a Ford Mustang on the beach instead?

I don’t think I want to buy anything from a company called “Kumho”.

No Complaints here, G.
I think the underlying message of the tire/blond girl commercial is “Embrace the use of rubber(s).”

Old (Bad) Habits
Jonathan Quick needs to get his ass back in front of the net and stop straying from the crease. I get the feeling he is going to hand the Canucks a goal tonight the way he used to do his first couple of seasons with ridiculous frequency.
Ryan Kessler
New Rule…
When a Vancouver player skates into the path of an opposing player and interfere results a 2 minute penalty shall be assessed upon the opposing player and one opposition goal shall be annulled.
Should a dive or embellishment be executed by a Vancouver player a 2 minute penalty shall be assessed upon the opposing player who caused the dive.
Fucking whiner…go suck mouths with the twinkle brothers. Their Van Dykes are tapered to make their faces look likes assholes just for you, Ryan.
Are Teemu Selanne and Melanie Griffith Twins?
Interference on the Goal
Is that interference with the two man game that looked like a pick and roll? Or are you allowed to do that?
I don't normally complain about the officiating
but it has been terrible lately. That hooking call, from the mid-ice official, was just awful.
Agree completely.
I didn’t even have much of a problem with things in the Dallas fiasco last week, but shenanigans all around tonight even if it’s not as dramatic on the ice.
The crazy thing is how awesome the Panthers have played this season.
Even after they traded away David John Wilkes Booth to the ’Nucks for nothing.

True. Who’d have thought Tallon’s rebuild would go so well. Campbell, Versteeg, Fleischmann, and probably someone else that slips my mind. Tehy’ve all done well.
Don't forget about them bringing back JovoCop.
But I hear what you’re saying. I watched the B’s-Cats game last night, and Florida looks great. Buy stock now in Mattel, Fisher-Price or whichever toy manufacturer makes the toy plastic rats they sell down there.

Yep. Awesome.
Give them a viewing sometime. The Panthers played an excellent game against the Bruins this past Monday night. Florida is playing much better than people had projected their team would be.

Great win
Dominant first period with a zillion odd man chances, responded well in the 2nd after the Nucks scored, and well… pretty bad 3rd but we held on…
Willie Mitchell was pretty bad today though…
When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.
No man is an island. You can try though.
It’s funny to read blog recaps that throw a serious hissy about Brown colliding with a Canuck for one Kings goal, when the Vancouver Sun also notes this:
Hansen, with help from a pick by Cody Hodgson on Kings defenceman Willie Mitchell, delivered a perfect backdoor pass to Booth.
If you’re making the Vancouver Sun appear fair and balanced, you might wanna reach for a paper bag.

Upon looking at the replays it appeared to be deliberate interference on Burrows’ part.
Are Teemu Selanne and Melanie Griffith Twins?
I mentioned this on Nucks Misconduct and they just about virtually bit my head off…ah, what a fan base.
I saw that.
The Game Recap you called their attention to and the subsequent comments were about as hypocritical as someone can get. Pretty sad and myopic.

Oooh, some rare Rich snark
The view from Vancouver could be brought to you courtesy of the handful of Canucks fans who were allowed to sit in the press box, behind/above the local beat writers, and cheer during the game. Interesting concept, and certainly a new one for me.
Oh Vancouver! You just always fucking deliver!

Interesting!
Kings success under Sutter not attribiutal to PDO progression to the mean (or ‘luck’ if you will).
This season:
Under Murray — Fen % = .507, PDO = 989
Post Murray — Fen % = .527, PDO = 983
Hmm, interesting. I know time on ice includes 4v4; but on BTN they show the PDO spiking up.
I am going to put the nifty chart in my next post.
Dinglebarnin' It JftC
in “close” games the numbers are even more dramatic:
This season:
Under Murray — Fen % = .498, PDO = 997
Post Murray — Fen % = .529, PDO = 993
the Kings are going to win the division.

They dug themselves a hole, and they will have to hope SJ effs up a good portion of their packed schedule. It’s possible, but it’ll be tight.
They really need at least that 4-5 spot this year. Two years running they’ve almost had it. Then Quick went in a tailspin in ’10, and Kopi of course was lost down the stretch.
Dinglebarnin' It JftC
I’m glad you said “Post Murray.” Everyone says “under Sutter” but they also count the transition games, a whole week before Sutter arrived (he’s that good!).
The dramatic jump comes right when Stevens takes over. Murray definitely had a dampening effect.
Dinglebarnin' It JftC
For once the numbers support my observations. We weren’t just unlucky under Murray. We were never headed for (much of) an uptick with him like a few people here and elsewhere were suggesting.
Hm, no, I wouldn’t put it quite that way.
They were pretty unfortunate for a short stretch AS WELL AS not being an upper tier possession team. They were always average there overall, even if they struggled to come back from behind (50-49% of events when the score is close is middle of the pack). The underlying numbers suggested they weren’t great, but they weren’t that bad, either.
I have no doubt that the Kings getting off fewer shots, as well as Murray’s strategy to get shots off from the point, exacerbates the problem when you don’t get the bounces — I think that affected the Devils in a similar way last year too, and the Devils last year set a record for poor shooting luck.
But they were also not burying clear cut chances they did get. Frustration can start to feed on itself, but weird things happen in short stretches.
Dinglebarnin' It JftC
To put it another way, possession is always a good thing, but it doesn’t guarantee luck in the short term. There were teams who were far worse at possession, truly bottom 5 in the league, who benefited from tremendous luck early on (Minnesota Wild, come on down!). The Detroit Red Wings were in scary elite possession territory while suffering from such bad luck that their fans almost set themselves on fire because “their team must no longer have the hearts of a champion.” But there are also average possession teams with good and bad luck in spurts. There’s really no guarantee.
If you have a high PDO and great possession stats, though, you can at least feel secure that your success on the ice is not an illusion. Some of the absolute best dynasty teams have both, because there really is that much depth.
Dinglebarnin' It JftC
I don’t really think we were that snakebitten though. It’s not like we had a ton of opportunities that just didn’t go in, at least from what I saw. I can’t remember a game where we could say, oh we were just unlucky.
I think it was a product of our perimeter game. If you consistently take shots from the outside your shooting percentage is going to be lower. It’s not like this was going to change under Murray. We’ll never know for sure, but I’da bet my left nut our production wouldn’t have turned around under him.
I see your point. Like I said, I definitely think it exacerbated it.
But there have been absolutely terrible teams since the lockout that had much better shooting percentage than the Kings. They weren’t even getting random fluke bounces on the same level as, say, Columbus.
It was too extreme not to have some variance involved.
Dinglebarnin' It JftC
the Kings under murray this season were playing like a mediocre team with bad luck. The bad luck exacerbated their mediocrity. My problem with Murray was that he kept claiming the Kings were getting “good looks” while not taking into account that the other team was getting about just as many “good looks” as the Kings were. The point is to out “good look” the other team.
omg yes on the good looks thing. I remember the COL game where we outshot them 32/16. The stats told a completely different story than the game. They were given outnumbered and high speed entries into the zone over and over and over and over and over.
Not that many good looks in those 32 shots for us.
Yes, but they’re getting good looks under Sutter, and are still a bit in their own heads. They need to break out of that. (Easier said than done)
And they were getting the same amount of looks under TM last year and scoring more goals. It just worked out that way.
