Dear Coach Sutter

Kyle Clifford is not a top six forward.

Please.
Thank you.
You’re welcome.

Respectfully,

No.

To elaborate

The Kings need a wing, not another center. Carter’s contract is a 10 year long albatross. And I especially don’t like the way has pouted since being traded to the BJ’s. He needs to man up and be a fucking professional.

I do sympathize with your desire to acquire a goal scorer, though.

I hear ya.

It’s mainly that making a 10 year committment to Jeff Carter scares the shit out of me.

If Johnson wants to be a horse faced version of Jaroslav Modry, I can deal with that.

the only reason i think it might work is because him and richards used to watch my little pony and drink yoohoos and ride tandem bikes. maybe it would get them both going to be able to take long walks on the beach together.

by hopesfall on Feb 3, 2012 7:18 PM PST up reply actions

What scares me about their long walks on the beach is that they would probably end up with Richards starting a massive bar fight at Sharkee’s while Carter ends up drinking a 40oz underneath the Huntington Beach Pier.

Robitaille should lace 'em up again

He wouldn’t be bothering with all this defense-first bullshit and might actually score a few.

Jim: "The Kings have done well on the road."

They’re 10-5-6. That means they’ve lost one more game than they’ve won on the road this season. How exactly have they done well?

It still doesn’t warrant saying that they’ve been good on the road. They haven’t been good anywhere. They’ve been incredibly average everywhere.

Fire Sutter

So let me get this straight. The Kings problem has been scoring goals, so what does Sutter do to change the lineup? Scratch Loktionov and put in Hunter. That sure looked well.

I’m tired of this garbage. The Kings are terrible and no matter what people say about them getting more chances and having more puck control under Sutter than Murray they’re still not scoring. Saying that they are getting more chances under Sutter than Murray is like saying Star Wars Episode II is a better movie than Star Wars Episode I. It’s true but it still sucks.

I hope they miss the playoffs so Sutter and Lombardi can both be kicked to the curb come April.

Shit canning DL or DS is rash and unwarranted at this time.

However, I would like to see Lombardi to address the lack of scoring forwards in the next offseason. Grabbing Richards and Gagne last offseason were solid efforts. But clearly the Kings need more.

I still am a proponent of continuity and patience when it comes to sticking with a team’s front office & coaching staff. Take it from a Raiders fan – constant turnover up top sucks.

Here's my issue wrt the front office

Lombardi wants this team to be the nhl’s version of the Baltimore Ravens. And the Ravens are a good team. Far tougher to play against than the Kings on the defensive end. But I knew the Ravens wouldn’t win the Super Bowl this year and they didn’t even get there.

Why might that be? Oh, perhaps because they still can’t get it done on offense.
Neither, very very clearly can the Kings. DL does not seem to me someone who covets creative players. He’s by-passed a number of them in the drafts. Doesn’t mean he’s not drafted some good players, but other than Toffoli (and it’s a bit premature on that end), he really hasn’t leaned towards very creative players. You score goals by being gritty (which they aren’t doing), And by developing creativity in the offensive zone.

Players like Kyle Clifford don’t appear to be creative, and neither Lewis, Richardson or Clifford seem to have great hands around the net. Who is responsible for that?

This is one of the most astute things I have read on a Kings message board this year.

Yeah, it really is an apt comparison. Nicely done, #6.

by JZarris on Feb 3, 2012 11:15 PM PST up reply actions

Of course DL will have to go shopping. When you’ve built a very average team that is playing below average hockey what do you do?

Let’s look at DL’s check list:
Clean house, check.
Fire the equipment manger, check.
Fire the trainers, check.
Design new jerseys, check.
Add some faces so fans can force themselves into believing it’s a step up, check.
Make an offer to build a football stadium and buy a football team, check.
Sign the football contract then trade away your top hockey players the next day, check.

If it gets really bad? Hire a “Heidi Androl” type to take over the play by play from Bob.

Random numbers

We’re on pace for 40 fewer goals this year (179) than last year (219). But we ARE on pace to score 5 more goals than NJ scored last year (174)! We are on track to score fewer goals than any other team that has played since the lockout. Think of all the really REALLY bad teams that have played since the lockout… and we’ve been outscored as a team by ALL of them (and probably by 20 or more goals).

We are on track to outscore the following teams in the past 50 years (and please remember, many of these teams had 2 to 12 fewer games to play…):
2011 New Jersey Devils (174)
2004 Carolina Hurricanes (172)
2004 Columbus Blue Jackets (177)
2003 Florida Panthers (176)
2003 Carolina Hurricanes (171)
2002 Tampa Bay Lightning (178)
2002 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (175)
2001 Minnesota Wild (168)
2000 Atlanta Thrashers (170)
1998 Tampa Bay Lightning (151)
(don’t count the shortened 1995 season)
1972 New York Islanders (170)
1970 Oakland Seals (169)
1970 Los Angeles Kings (168)
1969 Philadelphia Flyers (174)
1968 Philadelphia Flyers (173)
1968 St Louis Blues (177)
1968 Oakland Seals (153)
1966 Boston Bruins (174)
1965 Boston Bruins (166)
1964 Boston Bruins (170)
1962 Boston Bruins (177)

Doh?!! Man, if you’re gonna tank, why not do it big time and get a good draft pick out of the deal?

by number 6 on Feb 3, 2012 9:18 PM PST up reply actions

Even in 1995’s shortened 48-game season, the Nordiques (185), Penguins (181), and Red Wings (180) scored more than 179 goals.

OK

So I’ve reached the point of desperation where I start to throw out trade scenarios that are most likely far-fetched but in my mind make some kind of sense, so here it goes:

To CHI:
J. Johnson, Stoll* & Bernier.

To LA:
Patrick Kane, R. Emery*, 2012 2nd rd. pick.

Expiring contracts*, Hawks get the D and G they desperately need, we get goals (on a down year, granted), additional summer cap room and a needed pick.

Be gentle…

by JZarris on Feb 3, 2012 11:29 PM PST reply actions

On second thought

Maybe we should’ve stopped the clock for another 60 minutes… I’m sure we would’ve scored at least a goal if it did…

But then again, maybe not…

Get a Grip People

You just witnessed the Kings play the team that allows the least in shots against (26.1) and goals against (1.92) in the entire league. If there’s a game to freak out about our poor offense, this isn’t it.
