Jonathan Quick Leaves Game with Injury in Overtime; Kings Lose 3-2

Bruce Bennett

The Kings fell in a shootout to the cellar-dwelling Buffalo Sabres, but the bigger concern was an apparent lower-body injury to Jonathan Quick. Quick appeared to injure himself immediately after making a save late in OT.

A frustrating game got even more worse for the Los Angeles Kings in overtime on Tuesday night. With the Kings and the Buffalo Sabres going back and forth in overtime, Buffalo got a good chance on a tip by Corey Tropp. Jonathan Quick made the save, but it was a costly one. The video:

It does appear that the injury occurred when Quick stretched his left leg, but Quick didn't show any signs of injury until after he slid to cover the post. Quick attempted to stretch it out at the next stoppage in play, but the trainer eventually came out to examine the injury and it was determined that Quick could not continue. Ben Scrivens would enter the game with less than a minute to go, and Los Angeles would go on to lose in a shootout, 3-2.

[UPDATE: The Kings have said only that Quick is being evaluated, and Darryl Sutter "didn't check" on his injury. We've added the NHL.com video in the meantime.]

[UPDATE 2: Looks like that evaluation will take place back in Los Angeles. The Kings are expected to call up their top AHL goaltender, Martin Jones, while Quick goes back to California. Still no timetable.]
