KEY: Q is my standings, sorted by points-blown (explanation of points-blown here). OFF is the official (ESPN) standings. PRJ is projected point total for 82 games. PB is points-blown. +/- is the distance in points-blown above or below the 8th seed. TO95 is the record needed to get to the presumed (by me) playoff-threshold. GR is games-remaining. R/OTW is wins plus OT wins (the first tie-breaker). R/OT/SO is the team's record broken down into wins and losses in each of regulation/overtime/shoot-out.
Some observations:
-
The Kings are (in points-blown and W%) in a four-way tie for 5th, 2 points out of 3rd, 1 point from 9th.
-
In the official standings, they are in a three-way tie for 6th.
-
The Kings lose the first tie-breaker against any of those teams, due to fewer R/OTWs.
-
Six points separate 3rd from 13th.
-
St. Louis has three more games left than the Kings and could use those games to vault themselves back into the race.
-
Perversely, the Kings are helping themselves by losing in OT/SO now, instead of regulation.
