Kings Draft Roundup: LA Welcomes Seven New Players

Good morning, everybody! Yesterday’s draft ran for about seven hours, and whether you turned the coverage off after the Kings’ first pick, stayed to the bitter end, or didn’t watch at all, you probably missed some of what the Kings did. Here’s a quick roundup of the seven selections made by Los Angeles.

2nd Round

Pick 37: Valentin Zykov, Baie-Comeau (QMJHL)
CSS Ranking: 7th in North America

The Quick Assessment: Great value pick. Robert has a good post on the Kings’ move here.

4th Round

Pick 103: RW Justin Auger, Guelph Storm (OHL)

CSS Ranking: Not Ranked

The Quick Assessment: Auger could be a value pick; he was ranked 71st in the midterm rankings, but fell off quite a bit.

Pick 118: RW Hudson Fasching, USA U-18 (USHL)

CSS Ranking: 70th in North America

The Quick Assessment: The Minnesota commit was ranked as a potential first-round pick, but his production at the amateur level has been stagnant.

5th Round

Pick 146: G Patrik Bartosak, Red Deer (WHL)

The Quick Assessment: The Kings were expected to take at least one goalie after the trade of Jonathan Bernier, and this older prospect is expected to immediately fill out the minor league depth chart. His uncle is Radek Bonk.

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”><p>I&#39;m proud to be a member of <a href=”https://twitter.com/LAKings”>@LAKings</a> organization. It is a honor for me</p>&mdash; Patrik Bartosak (@PBartosak35) <a href=”https://twitter.com/PBartosak35/statuses/351562972054814720″>July 1, 2013</a></blockquote>

Pick 148: C Jonny Brodzinski, St. Cloud State (WCHA, NCAA)

CSS Ranking: 132nd in North America

The Quick Assessment: His brother’s a Shark, and he’s teammates with Kevin Gravel. Wasn’t ranked in the midterm rankings.

6th Round

Pick 178: D Zachary Leslie, Guelph (OHL)

CSS Ranking: 146th in North America

7th Round

Pick 191: LW Dominik Kubalik, Sudbury (OHL)

CSS Ranking: 139th in North America

The Kings traded their final pick to the Devils, allowing them to take Anthony Brodeur in one of the draft’s most memorable moments. And that is that! Thoughts?
