We had some scenarios in mind for how the first game of the season was going to go. Jonathan Quick getting hurt in the first period was not one of them. Unfortunately, when the Los Angeles Kings came out for the second, Jeff Zatkoff was in goal, and Quick was nowhere to be found.
It wasn’t certain when Quick got hurt, as he stayed in for the whole period. But he had a very active first period, stopping 14 of 15 shots and attempting to go after Joe Pavelski after San Jose’s lone goal.
For what it’s worth, in a between-shifts interview, Darryl Sutter said the injury happened on the last shift of the period. Here’s the NBCSN highlight attempting to show how Quick got hurt:

Regardless, it’s a lower-body injury and Quick’s night is done.
Via Kings PR, Quick has a lower body injury and is not expected to return.— Jon Rosen (@lakingsinsider) October 13, 2016
Jeff Zatkoff is in. Deep breaths, everyone.
