Jonathan Quick Named to Team USA for World Cup of Hockey

Can he hold off Schneider and Bishop to retain his starting spot?

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

America's starting goaltender in the 2014 Olympics will be back at it again. Along with Cry Schneider and Bn Bishop, Jonathan Quick will backstop the Americans at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. The rest of the preliminary roster has also been announced, though no other Los Angeles Kings made the cut. Here's all 16 players:

Team USA - Preliminary Roster

Position Player NHL Team
G Ben Bishop Tampa Bay Lightning
G Cory Schneider New Jersey Devils
G Jonathan Quick Los Angeles Kings
D Dustin Byfuglien Winnipeg Jets
D John Carlson Washington Capitals
D Ryan McDonagh New York Rangers
D Ryan Suter Minnesota Wild
F Justin Abdelkader Detroit Red Wings
F Patrick Kane Chicago Blackhawks
F Ryan Kesler Anaheim Ducks
F T.J. Oshie St. Louis Blues
F Max Pacioretty Montreal Canadiens
F Zach Parise Minnesota Wild
F Joe Pavelski San Jose Sharks
F Derek Stepan New York Rangers
F Blake Wheeler Winnipeg Jets

Who could still make the team? Of course, there's Dustin Brown, an alternate captain at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and an Olympian in 2010. Longer shots are Alec Martinez (who probably wasn't even brought up in 2014) and Trevor Lewis (who, amazingly, was invited to Olympic camp in 2013). For now, though, we get to rely on Quick, who's been in fine form this year.
