Bergeron beats out Kopitar for the Selke

The 2014 Selke Trophy has been awarded to Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins. Bergeron carried 1,283 voting points and beat out his competition by a wide margin. Kings center Anze Kopitar came in second with 840 points.

It’s odd to see there be such a wide gap as it should have been pretty much a toss up between the two forwards. The gap in voting is likely attributable to Bergeron playing a high profile Eastern Conference team, while Kopitar had still been flying under the radar in the west. Hopefully, Kopitar’s performance in this season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs will help him garner more votes a year from now.
