Petersen, Frk, Clague to represent Ontario Reign at AHL All-Star Classic

Rosters were announced last week for the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic and the Ontario Reign, hosting the event for the first time, will have three representatives there.

Goaltender Cal Petersen, forward Martin Frk, and defenseman Kale Clague will represent the Reign this year. While rosters are always in flux, due to call-ups to the NHL or injuries, the only other team currently set to send three players is the Milwaukee Admirals (the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators), who currently lead the league in points.

Frk currently leads the Ontario Reign with 23 points in 26 games, including a team-leading 14 goals. Clague leads all defensemen on the Reign with 15 points in 27 games.  With six goals, he’s only one goal away from matching his first year total of seven goals in 52 games.

Frk and Clague, who have both been up with the Kings, have been reassigned to the AHL and are expected to participate in the event. Frk had three goals in four NHL games during his call-up. Clague recorded no points in four games.

While Petersen’s stats continue to be ugly — his 3.50 goals against average put him near the bottom of the list for goalies who have played at least 660 minutes in net this season — he is facing a ton of pucks playing behind a patchwork defense. Petersen’s faced the most shots against in the AHL, with 1,052 shots and 950 saves. Petersen previously participated in the 2018 AHL All-Star challenge.

The 2020 AHL All-Star Classic will be held on January 26 and 27 at Ontario’s Toyota Arena. More information on the event, including how to get tickets, can be found here.
