Darryl Sutter's Back, What Do You Think?
Yay, nay, or maybe on Sutter's return? Also, Darryl is watching the Reign closely, who do you think he's looking at?
Lisa Dillman broke the story this afternoon, let's recap some key details:
Specific financial details were not immediately available but the contract is said to be in excess of what Todd McLellan received from the Edmonton Oilers and less than what Mike Babcock got from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
McLellan is reported to be making $3 million per season. Babcock, the NHL's highest-paid coach, last year signed an eight-year deal worth $50 million.
Sutter's extension is understood to be for two years plus an option.
"We have a lot of players that are free agents and a lot of young players that are close to playing here," Sutter said. "As coaches, you're trying to get through where you could be next year with your roster."
He has kept a close eye on the playoff run by the Reign, who are in the midst of a second-round series against the San Diego Gulls
Indeed, Sutter has been seen multiple times around Ontario since the Reign's playoff run started. Who do you think he's looking at?
We here at Jewels have gone back and forth about bringing Sutter back. What do you think?
Update: Interestingly, the third year is a club option. I would've guessed mutual:
Sutter's new deal with LA, paying north of $3M of year, is a club option on 3rd yr but gets paid some of 3rd yr even if option not picked up

Are you happy that Darryl's back for two more years?
Yes | 324 |
No | 53 |
Would've preferred 1 year instead of 2 | 42 |
