Dustin Penner Signs 1-Year Deal With Kings

(SB Nation) — On Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Kings announced that they have come to terms with unrestricted free agent Dustin Penner on a contract extension for one-year worth $3.25 million.

Penner has spent the last two years playing in Los Angeles and was an important piece in the team’s Stanley Cup championship in 2012, most notably scoring the series clinching goal in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Despite failing to meet expectations during the regular season, Penner found a niche for himself on a line with Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, helping the two players rise to the occasion of the postseason.

Now, he will have at least one more year with the club.

Penner scored seven goals and 10 assits for 17 points during the 2011-12 regular season. On the 2012 Stanley Cup run, Penner registered three goals and eight assits for a combined 11 points in the postseason.
