Euphemism watch: he left to “pursue other opportunities”

Strength coach moves on ” LA Kings Insider
Kings strength and conditioning coach Tim Adams has left his position to “pursue other opportunities,” the team said today. Adams, hired in 2009, was regularly praised by players, coaches and staff members for his off-ice work with the players, including extensive work during the summer. A replacement has not yet been named.

If he had another job, I think they would say so. If he doesn’t have another job, I think that means he was fired. Leaving “to pursue other opportunities” is like when executives resign “to spend more time with their family.”

I don’t even want to start ruminating on what the fireable offenses of a strength coach might be. But this strikes me as a reasonable line of questioning for a real reporter. It’s not like the fitness of several Kings players isn’t a hot topic this summer.

Off the top of my head, all I can think of is:

  • He has loose lips.
  • He’s incompetent.
  • He’s unethical.
  • He was inappropriate with someone’s wife.
  • Doughty’s contract is so huge that Lombardi is cutting costs everywhere he can.
