The NHL Department of Player Safety issued their ruling on Andrew Cogliano's late, high hit on Adrian Kempe. It's a bit surprising that Cogliano, who is by no means a dirty player, would warrant two games when other such hits have gone unpunished by the league. However, their reasoning is similar to that of when Patrick Maroon was punished two weeks ago for a high hit on Drew Doughty.
Christian Folin is now healed from whatever has ailed him for the last few weeks and was activated. A corresponding move was required and on to the IR goes Jake Muzzin, who was apparently slightly banged up. It actually makes sense for them to move Muzzin to IR instead of returning Gravel as this is the team's final game before their bye week.
It was only a matter of time before Mike Amadio went back to the American Hockey League. He wasn't making a huge impact in the NHL, was a frequent scratch, and his ice time rarely crept above five minutes on the nights he did dress. After a stint in Ontario to get his confidence back up, let's see if Brodzinski is ready to play with the best of the best again.
A highly esteemed writer of this blog (moi) was asked to be a guest on the It's a Hockey Night Podcast. You can hear me call Alex Iafallo a golden retriever and say that Adrian Kempe is sexier starting around 27:30 of the podcast. You can listen directly on their website or download the podcast on iTunes.
Andrew Crescenzi is a gritty two-way forward who has really excelled in the American Hockey League. He's been in the Los Angeles Kings' organization since he was traded in 2013-14 in a swap for Brandon Kozun. The diminutive Kozun was never going to make it to the NHL while remaining with Los Angeles as he had been passed up on the depth chart by the likes of Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli among others. Since coming over in the trade, Crescenzi has fit right in with Mike Stothers' system and is now leaned upon as a veteran player. In 202 games with Manchester/Ontario, Crescenzi has tallied 22 goals and 34 points. This recall is basically a reward for his hard work. But congrats anyway for making to the show. Wait, wrong sport. I mean the best league in the world.
This morning, I jumped on WGR 550 in Buffalo to discuss the recent Evander Kane rumors with Howard and Jeremy, who host the station's morning sports talk show. We'll have a longer article addressing the rumors -- including additional breakdown of who would potentially go the other way IF it happened -- but for now, here's seven minutes of talk.
