Brown and Devane lead Plymouth Whalers past Rangers for 6-5 playoff win – Winnipeg Free Press
The Rangers started the scoring just 33 seconds into the game when Tipoff roofed a shot over Plymouth goalie Scott Wedgewood from the top of the crease, but the Whalers tied things up later in the period when Devane tapped a cross-crease pass from Robbie Czarnik past Maxwell.

Who to Watch: NCAA Tournament | Armchair Hockey
North Dakota’s Derek Forbort may be the most physically imposing defender of the group. At 6’5″ and still filling out, Forbort plays a strong two-way game and projects to be a top four defenseman in the NHL. I think Forbort, taken in last year’s draft at 15th overall, made parting with Colten Teubert easier, who was sent packing to Edmonton in exchange for Dustin Penner. Forbort enters the tournament without ever having scored a goal at the NCAA level, but he does have 15 assists. His offensive game won’t turn any heads but it’s not a liability, and in all likelihood Forbort will be making his name at the NHL level with his size.

Majors trio combines for six points to take playoff opener 4-1 over Belleville – Winnipeg Free Press
The Mississauga St. Michael’s line of Jordan Mayer, Maxim Kitsyn and Mika Partanen combined for six points as the Majors beat the Belleville Bulls 4-1 Thursday to take Game 1 of the best-of-seven OHL Eastern Conference quarter-final playoff series. Kitsyn and Partanen each scored once and Mayer assisted on both of them and also set up Rob Flick for a second-period power-play goal. Partanen also had an assist on the Kitsyn goal. “I think the three of us are skilled guys and we have speed,” said Mayer. “It helps to have two big wingers like that, and because of our speed we seem to be able to spend most of our shifts in the other team’s end of the ice.”
