Game 20 Recap: Kings hand Vegas their fifth-straight loss

181-Word Game Recap

Jeff Carter followed the Hollywood script, scoring the game-winning goal by tipping Matt Roy’s shot from the blueline with 7:18 remaining in the third period as the Kings handed the Vegas Golden Knights their fifth-straight loss, 4-3, at Staples Center Saturday afternoon.

For Carter, who also played his 500th game with the Kings, it was his 371st career goal and 713th point. “There was nothing special about it you know,” said Carter. “Win a faceoff, shoot a puck, and go to the net. That’s kind of how the games go for us. We simplify.”

The Kings somehow found themselves with s 2-0 lead on only six shots and eventually built a 3-1 lead after Nikolai Prokhorkin scored his first career goal. But what can only be described as “that’s so Kings,” Vegas took over the game tying Los Angeles with 2:56 left in the second. Throughout the third period, Vegas looked as if they would take the lead on nearly every shot but Jonathan Quick held firm until Carter ensured the win.

Vegas dropped to 9-9-3 and the Kings improved to 8-11-1.
