Game 30 Recap: Special teams kill the Kings again

162-Word Recap

If you would have told the Los Angeles Kings at the start of the night that they would hold Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to just three points combined on the night, they would take it any day of the week, especially on a Friday night in Edmonton where wins on the road have been scarce.

That’s exactly what happened, but the Kings offensive frustrations continued on the road as Mikko Koskinen stood tall all night as the Edmonton Oilers grinded out a workmanlike 2-1 win over the visiting Kings. It was the tenth straight road loss for Los Angeles who have only managed 13 goals in those ten games.

Alex Chiasson and Leon Draisaitl and each had a power play goal and an assist in the opening frame as Edmonton took over first place in the Pacific Division and sits in fifth place overall in the NHL at 18-10-3. The Kings, meanwhile are settling into the bottom five with an 11-17-2 record.

Game Notes

Stars of the Game—Koskinen (1st), Chaisson (2nd), Adam Larson (3rd)… Mikko Koskinen had 35 saves… Jonathan Quick had 18… From the Asinie World of the Offsides Challenge: The Kings seemed to tie the game with six minutes left in the first period on a goal by Blake Lizotte, but it was disallowed following a video review on an offside call… The last game vs. Edmonton is February 23 in Los Angeles… Scratches for the Oilers were Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (hand), Zack Kassian (back) and Matt Benning (head), and for the Kings, Derek Forbort (back) and Alec Martinez (wrist).
