Game Day Watch, 2/21: Los Angeles Kings @ Colorado Avalanche

HOW TO WATCH

Game Time: 6:00 PM Pacific
TV: Fox Sports West
Radio: KABC AM 790
Stream: Fox Sports Go (requires cable subscription)

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

if you’re a Kings fan: The Kings have lost three in a row on five different occasions in 2016-17. Three times, they were able to win their next game. This one might not be the most important, but it feels like it; Colorado is easily the league’s worst team, and LA needs to use that to their advantage.

if you’re an Avalanche fan: Colorado has taken five of a possible eight points at home this month, so they’re not hopeless on home ice. Barring a full-on tank job by Arizona or an unlikely hot streak, though, the Avs are stuck in the 30th position. On the bright side, a win doesn’t matter; on the downside, a loss doesn’t matter either.

if you’re a hockey fan: Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene might be coming to your team! Yes, yours! Do some scouting of your own and create a fake trade offer which no GM in their right mind would accept! (I’ve already created one for the Kings: Landeskog for Brown, Trotman, and a 7th rounder. Do it Deano.)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

for the Kings: Tyler Toffoli. In seven games back from injury, he has a single goal and no assists, and that goal is the only goal by anyone he’s been on the ice for at 5-on-5. The bigger concern: he’s averaging almost a full shot less per game post-injury compared to pre-injury.

for the Avalanche: Mikko Rantanen. The 20-year-old winger has five goals in February and is averaging over 18 minutes a game. If Duchene and/or Landeskog leave town, he and Nathan MacKinnon officially become the Colorado centerpieces.
