What to Watch

  • Of the trio of ex-Kings who now don Maple Leaf sweaters, Kyle Clifford will be the only one to take the ice tonight. Jake Muzzin is currently out with a broken knuckle (which sounds awful) and Frederik Andersen is already scheduled to start in net. (Theoretically, if the Kings put up enough goals on him, they’ll get to see Jack Campbell. So, you know, extra incentive for the Kings to come out flying?) Clifford currently has one goal and two assists in 13 games with Toronto and, perhaps most memorably, was the player who collided with Petr Mrazek to set off the chain of events resulting in David Ayres’ first (and presumably only) NHL win.
  • The Kings have won three games in a row for just the second time this season and are looking for their first four-game winning streak. The last time they won four in a row? December 18-27, 2018, collecting wins against Winnipeg, San Jose, Vegas, and Arizona.
  • While Toronto finally seems to be firmly in a playoff spot — the teams behind them in the Atlantic standings are the Panthers and Canadiens, whose playoff hopes are weak at best — that doesn’t mean they’ve played all that well lately. They’ve lost most recently to the Sharks, as well as the Sabres, and the two teams chasing them — Florida and Montreal. It’s anyone’s guess on any given night exactly how the Maple Leafs are going to do, and tonight is no exception.
  • Anze Kopitar is looking for his 40th assist, and/or 60th point of the season. Trevor Moore faces down his old team for the first time. Nikolai Prokhorkin continues to make his case for staying in the lineup after Jeff Carter is back. There are no updates on Jeff Carter. Good luck tonight, everyone.
  • Dusty Imoo’s in town to see his boys, Jack and Cal. We love Dusty almost as much as he loves Jack and Cal.
