Jewelcast Twelve: The Past, Present, & Future of Analytics

On a special Sunday afternoon/evening edition of the Jewelcast, we’re proud to bring you what should be a robust discussion on the history of analytics in hockey and where they may be going from here. Bringing you that discussion will be myself and Nick (who of course tracked scoring chances & zone entries for the Kings last season) along with two more special guests. First, Robert (@RobertJFTC) of this very website makes his first-ever appearance on the podcast! As if that wasn’t cool enough, we’ll also be joined by Rob Vollman (@robvollmannhl), author of Hockey Abstract and contributor to ESPN, Bleacher Report, and Hockey Prospectus!

You can listen in live starting at 3 pacific/6 eastern by heading over to our episode page. You’ll also find a Skype click-to-talk button there should you want to join us on the air, and can also call in via more traditional means by dialing 347-850-1179. On today’s episode especially we’re looking for your calls on what your own experiences with #fancystats have been like (plus obviously if you have any questions on them you’ve always wondered about, these would be the people to ask!). Should you want to share your thoughts with us in 140 characters-or-less, you can do so by tweeting to the hashtag #jewelcast, and should you miss the show live it will be archived shortly afterwards both here and on our Itunes feed. Thank you and enjoy the show!

EDIT: About one hour and five minutes this week as we discussed a wide range of topics on hockey analytics. Very interesting conversation that I think you’ll want to check out if you missed it live, so enjoy. We’ll be back next week in our regular Monday night timeslot on 9/15 (no Jewelcast tomorrow, 9/8).
