Jewelcast Twenty: Chi-Town Blues

The Kings are off to a slow 6-4-1 start after their recent 0-3-1 Road Trip from Hell, but they’re not the only elite team not getting it done lately. The Chicago Blackhawks have done them one better (or, uh, worse), going 6-5-1 so far. This despite controlling a staggering 58.35% of all shot attempts (1st in the league), 57% at 5v5 (also 1st), and 56.17% at 5v5 close (2nd). But despite those gaudy possession numbers, they’re not scoring, as they’re tied with the Kings for 25th in that category with just 2.25 goals per game. Who died and made them the new us?!

We’ll try to get some answers out of our guest tonight, Blackhawks season ticket holder and longtime podcast host Adam Summers (@adam_summers) of the Breakout Hockey Podcast and Figure Four Online. As a bonus Adam is also very into European hockey, specifically the KHL and the recently introduced Champions League, so we’ll try to touch on that too! Should be a packed segment so don’t miss it!

In addition, obviously we’ll have to talk about the Kings’ own struggles of late. To that end I’ll be joined by the newest JFTC blogger Sheng Peng, actually making his second appearance on the show (he was a guest very soon before he joined our blog).

You can listen in live starting at 6:00 pacific/9:00 eastern by heading over to our episode page, or by using the live stream I’ve embedded below. You’ll also find a Skype click-to-talk button on the episode page should you want to join us on the air, or can call in via more traditional means by dialing 347-850-1179. If you wanna share your thoughts in 140 characters-or-less, tweet to the hashtag #jewelcast. Should you miss the show live it will be archived shortly afterwards here (using the same player), on our Itunes feed, and now via Stitcher as well! As always, enjoy the show.
