Said Kings President, Business Operations Luc Robitaille: “There was an overwhelming sentiment from our fans and from our players that has led us to this change. Our fans really like the late 80s and early 90s era Kings uniforms which are very similar to this uniform. As a player, the colors give you an attitude and an edge. Dean Lombardi and I talked a lot about it with the players and they love it. We feel our fans believe in it as well.”
I don’t know of anyone who “loves” the logo, though. I can tolerate the color palette, but the medieval times, UPS, upsidedown house, home-plate logo is horrible.

The Toledo Walleye and head Coach Nick Vitucci announced today that Forward Michael Pelech (PELL-ik) has agreed to terms for the 2011-12 season. Pelech, a native of Toronto, Ontario, has spent the prior two seasons in the ECHL with the Ontario Reign. Mike appeared in 135 games with the Reign, scoring 20 goals with 43 assists and accumulating 260 penalty minutes. Pelech also appeared in five games last year with the Manchester Monarchs in the AHL. “Mike is a big physical gritty player with great hands,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “We are looking for him to be a big contributor for us up the middle this year” The 21-year-old was drafted in 2009 by the Los Angeles Kings in the 6th round (156th overall) following his junior career. Pelech ranked first on Mississauga’s 2008-09 team in points with 49, third on the team in goals with 19, and second in assists with 46. In four seasons in the OHL, Mike finished with 279 penalty minutes.
With zero fanfare, or even mention, Pelech went unsigned by the Kings and is now a free agent.

The new super-duo has shown up. But Bud Holloway and Oscar Moller were scoreless in their first match together. They both have huge tip grades, says Skellefteå coach Anders Forsberg. Last season, sprayed Joakim Lindstrom and Mikko Lehtonen, the score in the top division. The duo did together 118 points and was a major reason for Skelleftea was a top team. Now Lehtonen and Lindström gone. Instead, Oscar Moller and Bud Holloway pulled in to replace him. Yesterday, when Skelleftea won 2-1 against Sodertalje, made the two their first match together. For the 2nd time in less than a week the Soo Greyhounds and Owen Sound Attack have completed a deal between the Western Conference opponents. Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Dubas announced this afternoon that the Hounds have acquired forward MICHAEL SCHUMACHER along with a conditional 2nd Round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Attack in exchange for Yegor Malenkikh. Schumacher was selected by Owen Sound with their 1st pick (40th overall) in the 2011 CHL Import Draft The 6.03, 198 lb winger played last season for Frolunda HC in Sweden before being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 7th Round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in June. Michael will be one of the fifty-four players to arrive in town for Training Camp 2011 which opens with registration on Wednesday. I can understand the anxiety about getting this deal done soon, but from Lombardi’s perspective there is much less of a rush. Even if this goes on into the season it’s not a huge issue in the long run. […] What would you rather have, Drew Doughty for all 82 games this season and have him signed to a 5 year contract, or Doughty for 60 games this season and get him signed to a (reasonable) 9 year contract? Of course you would rather have Doughty locked up long term, so just try to remember that as you hit refresh non-stop on the Kings website this afternoon. If the Kings don’t get Doughty locked up by the start of the regular season there are plenty of options to step in for him as a placeholder. There is already likely to be tough competition at camp between Alec Martinez (who has the inside track), Jake Muzzin (who impressed in a few games last year), Viatcheslav Voynov (who many feel is NHL ready), Nicolas Deslauriers (who had an impressive year in the “Q”), and Thomas Hickey (who started to round his game into form last season). While losing out on Doughty for any number of games is a loss, the Kings defense can survive a short while without him.

So Tuesday was all about change for the Los Angeles Kings . Officially changing their uniforms, announcing that purple has left the building (save for the spiffy heritage sweaters). And, as Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times tweeted, changing their offer to restricted free-agent defenseman Drew Doughty […]. So what’s Doughty’s side looking for contractually? Bobby Scribe of Kings blog Surly and Scribe writes it’s something of a shorter term:
“So, Drew wants 5. He sure as hell doesn’t want 9 and has balked at 7. I would prefer 7. Actually, I would prefer as many UFA years taken away as possible, but we will put that on the “want but won’t get” list. Seven million dollar cap hit for 5 years? Stamkos got $7.5 per season ($37.5 total) for 5, right? Some look at Weber’s 1 year award as the benchmark but I wonder if Steven Stamkos (notes) (another Don Meehan client) is the measuring stick with which Newport Sports Management wishes to beat Dean Lombardi down. Beat down the Dirty Harry of NHL general managers ? C’mon now. “

The other thing about a 5-year deal? Anze Kopitar goes unrestricted in five years. Ask the Predators what having two franchise pillars looking at the exit in the same summer is like. So the dance continues. Puck is back in Doughty’s end. Will it be five years or seven years? Or something shorter?
