Jonathan Quick might have surged a little too late to win the Vezina Trophy this season — though we’re hoping he wins — but he’s definitely leading the league in at least one department. Quick was named the NHL’s second star of the week ending on March 20, which is the third time he’s received Star of the Week recognition. No other player has earned a Star of the Week three times this season, though eight others have earned it twice. (Quick was the league’s third star for the week of October 19-25 and the league’s first star for the week of December 27-January 3.)

Quick went 3-0-0 with a 1.32 goals-against average, .953 save percentage and one shutout to help the Pacific Division-leading Kings (44-22-5, 93 points) post four victories and clinch their sixth playoff berth in the past seven seasons.
Quick received special notice not only for helping LA clinch a playoff spot, but also for breaking the NHL record for shutouts by an American-born goaltender. Quick is also likely to break the franchise record for wins this season; no Los Angeles Kings goalie has ever won 40 games, but he sits at 37-17-4 with eleven games left for the team.
Sidney Crosby was named the first star and Sean Monahan was named the third star; each had seven points last week. The full press release can be seen on NHL.com.
Anze Kopitar is the only other King to earn a Star honor this season. Mighty impressive for Quick.
