Kings Links: All Quiet on the Western Front

I think it’s about time we brought back the links, don’t you? As always, if you have links of your own, post them in the comments.

Los Angeles Kings News

  • Over at Battle of California, Dunn has some ideas on how to improve the Kings.
  • And now, an illuminating car ride with Justin Williams, courtesy of Kings Weekly. It’s like Jerry Seinfeld’s web series, but better.
  • Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey had a long day of travel last Friday, as their flight plans were heavily affected by the LAX shooting. And did we mention that Tyler slept through Linden’s calls? [LA Times]

(Rudy Kelly pointed out that it’s way more fun discussing off-ice events using players’ first names.)

  • Practice notes: Justin Williams left the ice early but not due to injury; the second line was King-Richards-Toffoli; Linden Vey seems to be competing with Colin Fraser to center the fourth line. [LA Kings Insider, The Fourth Period]
  • The Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, beat the Providence Bruins twice over the weekend. Stephanie over at Stanley Cup of Chowder recapped the action. Soon, she’s also going to be Stephanie at Jewels from the Crown, providing coverage of the Manchester Monarchs! Stay tuned and give her a follow on Twitter.
  • Meet the Players was last night. We’ll have more about it on the blog, but for now, Protect this Throne’s Twitter feed is an excellent read. As is the LA Kings’ official Twitter feed, of course.
  • If you missed that and want autographs: the Kings will appear at various SoCal ice rinks for clinics and autographs. Check it out here.

Around the League

  • So, Fear the Fin broke down our next opponent for us using the rarely-used “look how much these guys suck” analysis. Then again, they also called the unpredictable ending to last night’s Sharks-Sabres matchup:

Granted, both of these teams know all too well that things rarely turn out the way they look on paper in the NHL so it’s entirely possible we’re in for a tightly-contested matchup ending in a shootout.

  • Yep, the last-place Buffalo Sabres took down the mighty Sharks. In fairness, the Sharks were victimized after the referees did not see Tommy Wingel poke the puck into the net in overtime, on a play that probably should have been reviewed in Toronto.

Oh, did I say probably? I meant obviously and definitely. Oh, dear. [NBC Sports]

  • Then again, since seven of the eight Western teams in action earned points yesterday, I won’t feel too bad for them.
  • Former Vancouver Canuck Manny Malhotra has slowly worked his way back from a devastating eye injury and signed on with the Carolina Hurricanes. Yesterday, he scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Philadelphia. Very cool. [Puck Daddy]
  • Man, being in the Pacific Division is no fun right now. 9-6-0, but a small mountain to climb to get back in the division race.

Self-promotion: if you haven’t read the blog in a while, check out Nick’s post on Jonathan Quick, Robert’s post on Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene, Langluy’s profile of Tanner Pearson, and John’s weekly roundup of the Kings. Go! Go!
