Off Day Watch, 2/13: Seto, we hardly knew ya...
The Kings shuffle some chairs, and news & notes from the weekend.
Well, the dream is dead - or at least on life-support. I think we all knew that the off season signing of Devin Setoguchi was a hail mary, for both the team and player. And despite a fast start and some feel good moments, Setoguchi’s time on ice and impact have slowly dried up in recent weeks. After being scratched in contests versus Tampa and Florida, it certainly felt that the Setoguchi experiment was close to over, and on Sunday the team made it official. All in all, I’ll be rooting for Setoguchi in hockey and in life. Here’s my favorite goal from #10 this season:
In additional news, Paul LaDue was assigned back to AHL-Ontario, though we’re likely to see his name again in the near future, either in a trade or (if this merely for him to get work in during the bye) a call-up. Fingers crossed it is the latter.
The Kings are off until Thursday, when they host the Arizona Coyotes at Staples.
News and Notes from Around the League
- TSN has your mind-numbing trade talk, with a Bruins/Avalanche match discussed prominently. Also, the Ducks are again featured in a lot of discussions, so don’t be surprised when they beat the Kings out for a top-six forward.
- Fluto Shinzawa has a deeper dive on the Bruins/Avs talk in the Boston Globe, with good coverage on what Don Sweeney, Bruins GM, has in mind.
- The Montreal Canadiens continue their collapse, and the odds that Michel Therrien takes the fall grow larger by the day.
- If you missed Gustav Nyquist’s nasty high-stick on Jared Spurgeon this weekend, well, Jared Clinton has you covered. It was bad, folks, really bad.
- Mr. Clinton was on fire this weekend, producing not just Nyquist coverage but also solid reads on Brent Burns for the Hart and why the Washington Capitals should throw caution to the wind and pay whatever it takes to upgrade their roster for a Cup run. /
