Last season, we played a little game called “[x] points in [y] games, how good is that?” I’m going to incorporate that into the recaps starting now.
With last night’s win, the Kings are 8-3-0, 16 points in 11 games. That is the third best start in franchise history, behind 1980 (9-1-1, 19 points) and 1990 (8-2-1, 17 points), and equal to 1974 (6-1-4, 16 points).
The Kings are one win ahead of last year’s record (7-4-0, 14 points).
The Kings are on pace for 119 points, so if you’re expecting them to stay this hot all year, it’s possible I guess, but not likely. (Remember, 105 points is franchise-best.)
The Kings are 4-1 with Doughty, and 4-2 without Doughty.
Smyth continued his new policy of only scoring points at Staples.
For those of you keeping track, Jonathan Bernier greeted Quick warmly in the post-win huddle of joy. They exchanged a laugh and conversed for approximately four strides before parting. The exchange is currently under video review.
I’m not embarrassed to say that when I saw Ian Laperriere in a Kings jersey, I got teary-eyed.
Below is a chart showing the Kings goals, assists and points through 11 games, with the numbers prorated to a full 82 game schedule.
