Los Angeles Kings to play in 2020 NHL Stadium Series in Colorado

Bundle up, we’re heading to Colorado!

The rumors are true: the Los Angeles Kings will be returning to the great outdoors next year.

The NHL announced the opponents for the 2019-20 slate of outdoor games today and confirmed earlier reports that the Kings will head to face off against the Colorado Avalanche in the 2020 NHL Stadium Series. The game will be held at the home of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Falcon Stadium, in Colorado Springs, on February 15, 2020.

This will be the Kings’ third outdoor game, and their first appearance outdoors outside of California. The team hosted the 2014 NHL Stadium Series, playing in Dodger Stadium against the Anaheim Ducks, and went north to Santa Clara the next year to take on the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 Stadium Series. The Kings are 1-1 in outdoor games to date.

This game will be the first outdoor hockey game held at Falcon Stadium.

In addition to the Kings taking on the Avalanche, the league also confirmed today that the Nashville Predators will be heading to Dallas for the 2020 Winter Classic, making it a very good day for announcements about teams in non-traditional markets.
