The Los Angeles Kings made a move to shore up their depth forwards today, re-signing Martin Frk to a two-year deal. The deal carries an annual cap hit of $725,000; in actual dollars, he will make $700,000 during the 2020-21 season and $750,000 during the 2021-22 season. That figure is the league minimum for each season.
Despite playing only 37 of 51 possible games, Frk still leads the Ontario Reign in points with 36, and goals with 23. He’s displayed great chemistry in Ontario with Gabe Vilardi and Carl Grundstrom, which could bode well for the trio to stay together if and when Grundstrom gets another shot with the Kings.
Frk, 26 years old, has collected six points in eight games played for the Kings, and provides a good depth option for a team that has long struggled with depth scoring.
Frk’s contract is a one-way deal, meaning that he would make the same amount of money, regardless of if he is in the NHL or AHL. While that gives him some financial assurance, it still gives the Kings flexibility to move him between leagues if necessary.
