Kings trade Derek Forbort to Calgary

With the Los Angeles Kings making their biggest moves prior to the trade deadline, today’s a day of smaller deals for Rob Blake. That includes sending defenseman Derek Forbort to the Flames for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2021.

Forbort, a 27-year old left shot, largely played on the top pairing with Drew Doughty. He only got into 13 games this season after dealing with rehabbing a back injury. Prior to this season, he’d been remarkably durable, missing only five games between 2016-2019.

Forbort has one assist this season, and a total of six goals and 47 assists over 268 career NHL games.

Perhaps more than his on-ice play, Forbort will be remembered for his oddly dry sense of humor, all of the times his Instagram got hacked, and also his newly adopted dog Darla.

This is the second consecutive season in which the Kings have made a deadline deal with the Flames; last season, Oscar Fantenberg was dealt to the Flames at the deadline.
