Kings training camp begins today

Maybe you thought the off-season lasted forever, or maybe you feel like it was over in the blink of an eye. But as of today, players are back on the ice. The Los Angeles Kings officially begin their training camp this morning and new head coach Todd McLellan is wasting no time in evaluating his players. Each day of camp will begin with a scrimmage before transitioning into drills and practice time later in the day.

Training Camp will be held at the newly renamed Toyota Sports Performance Center and is open to the public.

There are no surprises on the full training camp roster. Lance Bouma, as previously announced by the team, will be attending on a Professional Try-out agreement. Bouma played three games last season with Genève-Servette in the Swiss National League before being shut down for knee surgery.

Bouma, selected by the Calgary Flames in the third round of the 2008 NHL Draft, last played in the NHL during the 2017-18 season, where he played 53 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, recording nine points (three goals, six assists). He was later assigned to the Rockford IceHogs, playing 20 games and recording 14 points (seven goals, seven assists).

Billy Constantinou and Jonathan Yantsis, both players who have been with the Kings this summer as free agent invites, have made the cut for training camp. Both players are looking to catch on with a pro contract somewhere after aging out of juniors.

Forwards Brett Sutter and Mason Bergh and defensemen Ryan Stanton and Max Gottlieb, all under AHL contracts with the Ontario Reign, will also attend camp.

The team also confirmed that Paul LaDue and Derek Forbort will miss at least the start of camp. Forbort is rehabbing a back injury that, per Rob Blake, he had been dealing with off and on all through last season. LaDue had a procedure done on his knee and is skating, but may be limited in activity at the beginning of camp.
